Is it appropriate?

Is it acceptable to hit on someone when they are at work?
How about asking for a date or phone number? Staying within the bounds of good taste of course.
I met a girl working at the library is why I ask, and would like to know what other people think.

Go for it. The only ones you should never talk to are waitstaff or bartenders when it's busy. When you're one of two people in teh place and they're bored is the perfect time, when they have 20 other people there wanting to be served they'll only talk to you because usually you'll tip them more.

Yeah it's ok. Just play it by ear. You can usually tell if they are uncomfortable talking at work. Plus librarians are hot.

It really depends on the situation/work place. Sounds like you should take the chance though

It's okay.

As long as she's not rubbing her tits in your face then spinning around a brass pole.

It's not flirting if you're sliding twenty dollar bills into her butt crack.

Hitting on someone? No, she's there to do a job, and if you are there hitting on her, you are putting her into a uncomfortable situation.

Asking for her phone number? Yes. If you struck up a brief conversation in the course of her doing her job helping you, ask her if she'd like to continue the conversation after she gets off work, and ask for her phone number.

Or ask her when she gets a break, and can you buy her a cup of coffee.

HA! That's hilarious! Thank you for a much needed laugh.

As per the thread issue however, I would concur with everyone else and say go for it.

Good luck!

Be respectful and responsible with her time, and you should be fine. Something straightforward like, "I don't want to take up your time while you're here at work, but I'd really like to get to know you better. Could I call you sometime?"

I wouldn't do it. Women are most likely hit on all day, everyday at work. I'd play it cool and perhaps develop a date as a natural progression of things.

Spoken like a true manager.

Actually though, I do agree. Work is work, and play is play. By all means pursue it. But, on your time. Then, of course, the trick is to keep work and play seperate. Bosses take a dim view of employees boinking other employees in the supply closets.

I'd say go for it. Even when in relationships I talk to people all the time (So my younger brother pointed out to me last week...). My last gf I met at work and I think that that is defiinitly a good place to meet people.

Proceed with caution because I've known of many a sitch on the job that went badly very quickly to the point of forcing one of the two parties to leave that particular place of employment. And you don't know what a person's deal is vis a vis how hard it will be for that person to get a new gig and how badly they need work in the first place.

Check with your HR person to see if it's even allowed in your place to begin with.

I met my wife on the job. Still going strong 8 years later!

So long as you don't mix business with pleasure (IE one of you is not the boss of the other, or you work too closely) and you are both adults, it is a very manageable situation.

I knew a situation like that. The lady was in her early 20s, just out of college, just recently married and the guy was her project manager with a house and kids and the whole nines. The whole company knew about it (or so it seemed) and eventually the guy was moved to another office with his team and she stayed at the previous location (ultimately she left for another company). It can be nasty.

Then again, my old boss met her husband on the job and they're totally cool.

So, if she is sticking her tits in your face and sliding around a brass pole, but you are not slipping her twenties, is it OK then?

I'd say hitting on someone should be done on your own time. not on the bosses.

Save all that brown nosing for them.
