best way to get over recent breakup
girlfriend called it quits yesterday after a year and a half, we were really close, and now it hurts a lot...does anyone have any suggestions to get this off my mind?..
|
Yikes man, that's a tough one. I am sorry to report that the best thing is going to be time. I also believe that you should turn the focus away from women for a while.
I know it's tough, but you should do those things you always mean to do, like go to a museum, read, educate yourself. Making yourself a better person tends to make you feel like you have more to offer for that next person who comes into your life. Be strong, man! |
Hide all of your Ex girlfriend "memorabilia"
It will be hard, but you have to forget about her. Go out with your friends, take up a new hobby, focus on old hobbies. Post more online, paint, draw, write poems, write songs, build something. The only way to feel better, is to forget. It will be hard, trust me. There will be times when you feel like you can't go on anymore. You will get passed them, and when you forget about her, and move on you will be a stronger person for it. |
There are a lot of other women out there. Don't let one ruin your day today because today could be the day you meet the one. :)

Hang out with friends. Jerk off to lots of porn. Drink lots of vodka.

thanks very much for the encouraging words, you make some very valid points that i will take up :)

when my girlfriend of almost two years did this to me I pretty much became a male slut. Went across the state and stayed at college dorms with girls I knew from high school and slept with more girls in a two-three week period of time than I have in the last three years. After having let time passed, I must say that was probably the completely wrong way to go about "forgetting".

In my opinion, the absolute best thing to do is have zero communication with her and try to avoid seeing her. It's not going to go away if if these two things keep up, especially communication. Ex's don't 'stay friends.'

Exes can stay friends, but it's best not to see much of each other or communicate much at all until the whole situation has lost its sting.
I'd have to say that the best way to recover is to keep yourself as busy as you can. It's when you don't have much to keep yourself occupied that you're most in danger of drifting into sad thoughts. |
I went through this as well. A girl I had lived with for 9 months broke up with me, and it felt like my world imploded. The biggest problem was that I thought meeting other women would cure it. I ended up hurting several other women that I potentially could have had a relationship with because I was so flakey after the breakup. I just didn't know what I wanted. I just didn't want to feel pain anymore. The only thing that helped was keeping busy and a little bit of time.

I've gone through this many times - had very few short relationships. Like everyone else has already said, keep yourself busy. My thing was working out - I got in pretty good shape after my last breakup, though sadly I've lost some of that. I also had one night that I drank most of a bottle of rum in under an hour - that helped too.
On another note, I've tried being friends with past girlfriends, and it worked once. My current girlfriend and I are together because we tried to do the friend thing, though. We took a six-month break from each other, went out as friends a few times, and, before we knew it, we were going away for the weekend and dancing until the sun came up. Doesn't always happen this way, though (we've dated six times). Anyhow, my advice would be to start a new hobby or start working out. You'll feel better for bettering yourself. Good luck man. You'll get through it soon enough. |
thanks guys :D

what's ironic: after having given you that advice, I'm going to be taking it a day later. One fucking day, that's all it took. Wow, there went another year with the same girl.
She'd been cheating on me for a month and a half. I hate my life. |

Don't hate your life though, hate today. Love that there is tomorrow. |
For some reason, that made me smile, thanks.

Okay. Seriously. Your best bet it time. It's like a really shitty hangover... it will go away in time but we still try to get rid of it by drinking more or taking pills but nothing ever works. Just relax enjoy what life you have and start a new outlook. It's not all bad. I bet she had funny looking nipples. |
I went through one breakup, at first I was feeling like shit. But then I thought about how she played behind my back and lied to me. That made me realize that I was much better without her ;P
Best thing to do is to keep yourself busy: go out, meet new people, have fun! |

A one night stand works well too. Seriously. |
Time, time and oh yeah...more time.
Nothing can make it go faster. |
Like my uncle's always said, if a girl dumps you, go fuck her sister, I've never actually heeded his advice, mostly what everyone here is saying is pretty much true.
|
Sorry to hear about the pain that you are in. First off, she is a BITCH, ya it hurts, but chock it up a learning experience in life and move on. I suggest PORN, and lot'z booze.
