I hate to make this a new thread, but I searched and didn't find exactly what I was looking for.

So, bad situation:

A friend of mine (Male) had a bit of a run in with a female last Sunday night. Now, they're both young (He's 17, she's 15) .. and of course, they weren't thinking because they were "drunk" and didn't use a condom. (WHY people still don't figure out that they should use condoms is beyond me.) So, Thursday, I get a desperate call from the male friend of mine. Apparently, this girl he slept with went and got a pregnancy test on Thursday, and it tested positive. So, she went down to the local hospital, and it tested positive again. I feel really bad for this friend of mine, and I honestly think that this girl is saying she's pregnant to trap him into a relationship. (The things girls do, eh? J/K Ladies, I am one myself.)

So, my basic question is - How early can you actually get a pregnancy test that is accurate? This 4-5 day thing is smelling a bit fishy to me. He's so worried right now, I'd like to help give the poor guy peace of mind. So, if anyone has experience with this kind of thing, any info would be MUCH appreciated.

What type of test did they do? Quantitative blood tests are usually very accurate. False positives in either case are very rare. Usually there is a mistake if the test is negative early on, due to the hCG levels being low.

I'm not sure what test, but they did it at a clinic at the hospital. Sorry I don't have the specs. I'm not even sure if she actually DID go to the hospital .. this girl is so shady. =\

So if she's shady, and you know it, and he knows it. Get some proof, why is he reacting this way if it's known that this girl cannot be trusted ?

Geez, don't let your friend get all messed up without knowing for sure. It's really unfortunate that some people need this kind of drama in their lives to go on. I'd confront her and make sure you guys are on the same page.

Erm, well, you know, I'm not sure when you can tell if someone is pregnant, I was more or less reacting to your calling her "shady" as I know the type very, very well.

Make sure he gets a DNA test. In some states all she has to do is put his name as the father on the birth cert and he will be reponsible. If he gets tested now he most likely won't get fucked.

The tests done at clinics are the most accurate you're going to get. Doing multiple tests and getting the same result is as accurate as is possible.

Of course, that's if she really took the tests. I've heard of shady women like this before and it's possible that she's not pregnant, but manipulating him. So, the best bet would be for him to be present for a preggers test to witness with his own eyes that she's doing it properly.

28 days, or the length of one menstrual cycle is the minimum wait for Planned Parenthood to perform a blood test. before 1-2 menstrual cycles, a false positive is possible.
A blood test is the most accurate measure as it measures hormone levels produced by implantation of a fertilized egg.
They will take 2 blood samples and compare both results to avoid false positives.
It's not theoreticly possible for her to correctly test positve after only 4 days unless she was already pregnant. the female body would not have yet produced any of the hormones that piss tests react to yet since they require the prescence of hormones from implantation, and implantation occurs 72hrs to 6 days after fertilization.

I'm learning quite a few new things from this thread.

When people are doing or saying something that seems shady, I find out for myself.

If only he could take a piss test to find out whether or not she's pregnant.

uh, did it ever occur to your buddy that she may have already been knocked up when they did the deed?

Most pregnancy tests are not anywhere near accurate until at least after the next expected period was supposed to start. If you let those tests sit long enough (a couple of Days) then what appears to be a faint positive result CAN appear. If she was due for a period and it hasn't yet come, then I would suggest he demand to be present for one of the tests (and yes, I mean he should watch her pee and then perform the test), and then demand a DNA paternity test in the event it's a positive. It's highly likely that he's not the first person she's been drunk and forgotten with. Otherwise, he should tell her to pound sand. If she doesn't want to prove it to him, then she's got very little ground to stand on.

Oh, and another point. I don't know of any hospital that will perform a pregnancy test if you've already gotten a positive result from one of the home tests. The doctors didn't want to see my wife for almost two months after the home test came up positive. They said those grocery store tests are easily as accurate as the ones they would administer.

I dated a girl that thought she was pregnant a couple of times, and these events always occured when she seemed to be feeling insecure in our relationship. It was a ploy and it was this kind of crap that ultimately drove me away.

This is how I understand it. Once an embryo is conceived, there are hormone levels in the blood that start to rise. I believe they are called HCG levels. It is my understanding that it is very difficult if not impossible to detect these levels until the embryo has been viable for at least 14 to 17 days. For most women who ovulate in the middle of their cycle, this means they can't detect it until they have missed their last period. My wife (who is anal about stuff) was absolutely sure she was pregnant about 10 days after we had sex when we were seriously trying. Her boobs were sore, and she just knew. However the tests indicated nothing for another week (and she had several blood tests done at the doctor).

I suspect that if she is pregnant, it was not your friend that did it or she is potentially lying as mentioned above. Anything is possible as the human body is too complex to say something is definitive, but it appears to me to be very suspicious.

There is NO WAY she could know she is pregnant this quickly. She was already pregnant.

usually 7-10 days for a blood test at the dr's offc, but even that can be inaccurate. more like 2-3 weeks for a storebought urine test. there is no possible way she could know within 3-4 days unless it was a case of the woman just "knows", which i personally do not put much stock in.

Yeah 2-3 weeks is about the waiting time. I'll concur with everyone else 4 days?? Something is rotten in Denmark. If she is showing up pregnant consistently on a doctor's test, I'd say get a DNA test soon as well. I don't know the wait time on that, but to put his mind to rest I'd go for that as soon as it is a viable option.

For any level of HcG to be clinically detectable in blood or urine it usually takes 7-14 days

Just a quick update:

I told him to go get another test with her. Apparently, she's 6 weeks pregnant with someone else's baby.
