Abstenance from porn…
 

I've been searching the board this weekend and haven’t been able to find what I've been looking for. I seem to recall there was a group or a thread that talked about abstaining from viewing pornographic material. I've tried to search, but searching anything with the word 'porn' usually results in porn.

I'm curious to know what other people’s experiences are\were when abstaining from porn and what their (non-religious) reasons are (male or female.) Also, if you have any links or reading material about the subject, I'd be grateful.

I try to avoid it now because I couldn't help but notice how it changes the way you think.

When I abstend from lookin at porn, I noticed that I start eating more ice...

I stopped for about 4-5 months...when I first starting going out with my current gf. But then school started up again and there just isnt enough time to fool around at all. So, porn has once again become a uncontrolable urge. I would drop it in a second if our sex life was that active again....sigh.

(gotten bad enough that I actually came very close to cheating...scared me though, so I stopped)

Hum - I was thinking this post would stir up more responses.

I stopped for awhile but I came back to it. There wasn't any particular reason why I stopped, or I dont remember(which is likely), but I came back to it I can go w/out it but I have no reason to right now

I wanna stop too. I hate being addicted to anything... it means that i'm not in control, and what i do is not my own choice.

9. Make amends to those you have harmed: Ahh, Neosporin.
10. Continue to take personal inventory: Wow, I’m still looking at porn every day.
11. Pray and meditate to improve your conscious contact with God: Mmmm…boobies….

I've gone a few months without looking at it before and noticed that I found more "real life" girls attractive than normal.

I just can't bring myself to delete those *really* good movies :)

I have noticed that pornagraphy has distorted my views. Well look at it this way, I used to get hard just seeing a victoria secret ad. Then you start with the playboys, then penthouse. Then eventually you are into midget clown porn. I mean really its a progression from natural naked women to seeing them get fucked by donkeys. Once you get to the point that the only thing that can really turn you on is seeing strange and weird stuff you have to let go for a while and start new again.

There are times when I check out online porn 3-4 times a day, and there are times when I don't check it out for weeks at a time. It all depends how much activity (not just sexual) is going on in the real world.

Yeh, I think porn is adictive. I've religeous reasons to want to quit permanently. But I've come back from time to time. I just enjoy the variety of faces, bodies and breasts. So, . . . . where was this titty board that's been mentioned?

I agree. I can look at porn every no and again, but not on a regular basis. and I'm not even getting laid.

Abstaining from porn is harder than abstaining from sex(not counting lack of availability.)

The only times that I abstain from porn are when real life activities like cleaning, buying groceries, and dealing with children are taking up my time. If I'm bored, I have no qualms about popping over to The Hun's Yellow Pages and sampling some content.

i love looking at porn. and i just use all the erges it gives me and take it out on the wife. she doesn't mind at all.

So, it sounds like everyone is pretty much up for porn. Do any of you find that it makes you unhappy with your current significant other? Also, do you think that it can set false expectations of what you would like your potential significant other to look like?

Quit porn, it's been contemplated before, not for religeous reasons, just cause it's soooooo monotonous (did I spell that right?). I've left porn for short 2-3month spans, but that's my record.

As far as having it effect a relationship, it hasn't yet, so I'm not worried. Heck, I generally find my girlfriends are already much more kinky than I'd like.

I've stopped looking at porn for like a month at one time... it makes you apprecieate people more and not just think "I wonder how she'd be in the sack...?"

Anyone have any tips for stopping for good? I have a mild addiction that I've been trying to kick for years and now I'm married and have a 1 month old son. It's got to go... I feel like I'm living a lie.

I pretty much abstain from it now. I used to really be addicted, but now I just make my own. It's much more personal, and artistic to do nudes of you, and your SO, then waste time wanking to strangers. (This might be different if I weren’t married, but I doubt it, I feel like I’ve just grown past the “porn stage”)

I just prefer real people as opposed to "perfect" models and the like. It's the same as the commercials on the television, misleading, ideal changing, standardizing, mind fuckage! (Pardonner mon français.) ;)

Something about it just doesn't seem right though. I wouldn't want my son looking at this stuff. I feel like I have to hide. It seems to me thats it's no worse than being an alcoholic (at least for me anyway).

I stopped looking at porn when I went to Europe for 6 months. It was kind of sad how every once in a while I wished I had my computer with me.

Well, you have to hide the fact that you have sex from your son as well though.

its too hard for me not to look at it...i dont know why but its so addicting.....i've tried before not to look at it/masturbate to it but i just cant control myself. even when im at school and my girlfriend is right across campus i cant help but watch. she knows about it and is cool with it. for me i think it makes woman look more attractive, either that or i just miss my gf so much right now that all girls look hot because my libido is going insane
