So, you gonna have kids or what??

So, what's your take on kids, assuming you don't already have any. Going to? Not going to? Already had the snip? Tell us, please!

I am of the opinion that I am NEVER having children. NEVER. NOT EVER..... unless I meet that one girl I cannot go my life without, and she wants some.... and then i MIGHT give in. MAYBE. But likely my strong aversion for kids (i fuckin HATE kids, always have) will cause such a relationship to fail.

Anyway, this isn't about me, it's about YOU!

Absolutely. I’ve been thinking about raising children since I was about 16. Not seriously but I have always been a realist and knew that I was going to think about it sooner or later so I might as well get a head start. I decided back then to wait until I am in my late 20’s or early 30’s. I still stand by that, though its looking to be early 30’s since I still feel like a kid at the moment and in no shape to have one of my own anytime soon.

I would prefer to have one kid. If the first one start turning out alright then a second one five years later might be considered. Though that would be a serious decision as raising two kids is a totally different experience.

I think it’s a huge responsibility but I really want to give it a shot.

I don't hate kids, but I don't want any either.

A) I think I'd be a horrible mother
B) This world is fucked up and I can't imagine bringing a child into it
C) Childbirth scares the crap outta me

I'll say im in the "No, unless the right guy for me really really REALLY wants kids" then maybe I'd have one. And that's a big maybe.

I've also been thinking about having a child since 16. Of course there would be no way in hell I would be able to support a child for sometime (still a poor college student). It would really depend on where my life is going and my partner(still looking for one). I see how messed up this world is and want to raise my kid(s) the way I feel is the best for the future of society.

I'd like to have kids someday. It's really up to the parents to teach their kids right from wrong. And if parents don't do that at a young age, the kids won't know any better when they're older. So, look at society now, and look at a lot of the parents. They work too much, too little, don't care about their kids, etc etc. The people who turn out okay are USUALLY the people whose parents were also okay... see my pattern of thinking, or am I rambling on?

I like kids, I have several nieces and nephews. They are fun and I can hand em back when they get mean. Would like some of my own, so I can warp their minds in my own special way.

I can think of a lot of better places to put my time and money. I don't work well with kids, and probably wouldn't make a good father. Only thing I'd ever really want a son or a daughter for is so I could build a car for them and get them into racing at a very young age, which is something I didnt have the chance to do until I was nearly a teenager.

I already have a 14 year old, she's pretty cool and smart and hip and stuff. I'm 34 now, and am married to someone who is schizoaffective, and has just recently stabilized on his best set of meds ever. We'd like to enjoy each other's company for a few more years before having *a* kid, but we do want one, we think.

Well, seeing as i'm only 18, i'm definitley not planning on having kids anytime soon. I don't really like kids... but i'm not totally against having one or MAYBE two of my own... 10 or so years down the road from now, when im done with college and have a career established.

I dunno though, a lot of people that say they don't want to have kids end up having them anyway, so I figure that I might as well just accept the fact that sooner or later im going to be called dad :P

I'm thinking about it all the time, and I can't wait.

My dad, in all of his bloated crap, once told me that people who don't have kids aren't normal (just to get me to have kids), and it actually stuck on me.

What I really want to do is raise very exceptional children that rise above every possible challenge.

One day I'd like to have kids. I mean who is going to take care of me when I'm old and senile????

I watch my sister's kids a lot. I've got a niece and a nephew that I think the world of.

Sometimes, however, they just drive me crazy. Thankfully, I have the option to walk away and gather myself together, a luxury I wouldn't have if the scoundrels were mine.

Eventually...yes, but I still have a lot of growing up to do.

I definetly want kids.
I don't know what I'm supposed to do with most of my life, but I know I'm supposed to be a mother. At the moment, and for quite some time, I'm content to play "mommy" to my brood of friends.

I'd like to have between 2 and 4 bebes. Let's see what happens after the first one...

I could take it or leave it. If I found myself suddenly and surprisingly preggers with Ratbastid's love child, I'd go ahead and have the kid.

I like kids. Other people's kids.

I'm far too stressed/selfish/anxious as it is, and I can't see deliberately adding a child to this mix. I think I'd be a fine parent but it's not something I feel as a life's calling. Add to that some genetic issues (I'm a carrier for a nasty x-linked recessive disorder) and the fact that pregnancy totally grosses me out, and I think I'm happy with 2 cats a dog and a husband. If I want someone to take care of me in my old age I'll befriend youngsters and buy long-term care insurance, thank you very much.

P.S. The two phrases that I've given Ratbastid to throw at me if I ever get moony over having kids:

"mucus plug"
"college tuition"

'nuff said.

I'm still to young to have kids, but in like 10 years it would be ok. The only problem is that I want them to have all the things I had as a kid, so I'm gonna have to work really really hard. I chose the being rich first option, I'd really like for my kids to have horses and travel to europe, etc. Otherwise no kids if I can't give them the best of everything.

The child support thread on TDiscussion got me thinking about kids. Now that I know how fast a relationship can go south, I would be kind of afraid of getting a girl knocked up and then having her split. I don't want to give away half of my pay check just because some girl doesn't want to work things out. So, the answer is still maybe, but after a long lenght of time.

I hate kids. Sometimes they're cute, but even the cute ones get on my nerves at some point. When they do, I can always walk away, or give them back to their parent(s). You can't do that with your own child. They are your responsibility 24-7. I'm not okay with that.

If, for whatever insane reason, I decide I want a kid, I'm not going to *have* a kid. I'm going to adopt. There's no way I'm giving birth.

Motdakasha, you have no idea how relieved I am to hear another woman who doesn't have baby fever. I saw two preggers women in Target today patting each others bellies and talking about pregnancy stuff and just shuddered. I know it's totally natural and a joy and yadda yadda yadda, but honestly. If I ever pat another woman's belly in public, and not as part of sex, I want to be shot. And I'm tired of other women looking at me funny when I don't want to feel the baby kick. I think it's gross. It reminds me of the scene in Alien.

Anyhow, /rant, but it's nice to not feel alone and like a freak just because I don't go googly over all things infant-related.

The most annoying part is when I'm constantly told, "Oh, wait a few years and then we'll see if you still don't want a baby." I know what I want and don't want, I've felt this way since as long as I can remember (Kindergarten). I'm sorry I don't buy into our brainwashing society! And it's not only that they tell me what I will want, they do it in a condescending, agist manner! Ditto on the Alien.[/rant]

as for me having kids... i really hate the way a lot of kids are these days...their fun sometimes...but not all the time... so i lean towards not having kids...
im sure if i was financially secure and the woman i marry really wanted to i could prolly be convinced to have one...

The condescenscion is totally annoying! They might as well pat me on the head and hand me a fucking lollypop! Like it's inconceivable that a woman could NOT want to spawn. Man, is it annoying to be treated like you're a child yourself just because you don't want to have one. I have tons of friends with kids who really respect my choice not to have one, but boy the few bigmouths who think they know best can sure chap your ass.

Stick to your (child-free) guns, sister!

P.S. Even the DOCTOR is in on it - asked about 3-4 years ago about getting a tubal and the GYN said "not till you're 35 or have had a kid already." WTF? How paternalistic (no pun intended) can you get?!
