Look into your state laws first; in most places, you have to file papers before the ceremony, and perhaps have a blood test as well. Don't want reality getting in the way of your romantic efforts...

Wow, you guys have put me to shame. I guess I'm not really the romantic type compared to the rest of you, but I've never wanted to make a big deal of it. I think my girl's the same way as well (just need to work up the nerve to actually do it.) I'd like to be on a trip or something and do a spur-of-the-moment type deal. Well being creative or just doing the traditional proposing, the bond you are about to gain is all that matters. I just like the idea planning something slick for your girl or man.

Not necessarily, but sometimes spontaneity requires some advance preparation...

this is what my ex-fiance did for me, and though it didn't work out i still give him props for it

we took a trip to visit seattle, wa and after walkng around all day downtown he told me he had made dinner reservations for the space needle. I was all excited, because it was one of my first times to seattle. as we got to the top and were led to our table there was already a dozen roses sitting on it. i loved it. then after dinner he got on his knees on the floor and asked me to marry him. i, of course, said yes, and our waiter started clapping. i felt like i was turning bright red but it was really sweet. We didn't even really go out that much so him planning it all out before our trip made me feel really special. **sigh**
