Well, a whole lot of people are recommending against the spermicide nonoxynol-9, and I'm not familiar with any others, so that might be a reason.

On the other hand, I just found these near the bottom of the page.

There's good stuff out there called 'Forplay' that has a nonoxyl-9 option.

I was eating at a small fish restaraunt, and they gave you off-brand Handy Wipes to clean up afterwards. I'm the kind of person who reads everythiing, so I was looking at the ingredients list, and found nonoxynol-9. That kinda creeped me out.

My girlfriend and I decided we're both comfy with the idea of sex, but we just want to be really careful. Our idea was to use condoms with spermicide and if needed extra lube with spermicide. Any reason why not to? I hear nonoxyl-9 can mess with the genitals and may not be so pleasant, if thats the case i guess we can steer away from it, but we want to be safe as possible.

KY used to sell a Jelly that contained nonoxynol-9 and it included a special applicator. You could "inject" the spermicide near the cervix and then it would kind of ooze around and act as a lube.

Last time i used it was in 1999 and I haven't seen it advertised or in stores lately.

There has been scientific research that has proven that the nonoxynol-9 component can cause tissue damage that may make you more succeptible to HIV infection. Most products that contain nonoxynol-9 say not to use them more than once a day for this reason.

Now if you and your partner are known to be hiv-negative, you have very little risk. However, using a spermicide product with a partner of unknown status could very well put you at risk.

As for the wet-nap question? Nonoxynol-9 is a detergent - i'm sure it has lots of valid applications.

yeah my girl and I read up on it a little more and how it can cause irriation. Well im going to see what i can find localy, for now condoms with spermicide and regular lube will be fine.

Well, that makes me feel a bit better, but I haven't been back there in 8 years.

I wonder in Nonoxynol-9 may have played a part in what my wife went through delivering our son.

She was torn up pretty bad and the Dr. had a hard time sewing her closed because her tissue was like "cottage cheese". His words not mine. I saw what he meant as I was there the whole time. Took him over 90 minutes to close her.

MY wife got irritated using n-9. So when we use condoms because antibiotics mess with her birth control, we have to dfind condoms without n-9.
