Paying for condoms and the Pill
 

Yesterday my girlfriend bought a new course of her Pill and she paid for it. It got me thinking about whether I should pay for half.

Condoms seems fairly straight forward. It's usually the guy who pays for them (or just has them on hand) and if a couple goes out and buys them whoever has the cash just picks them up. I guess most people share the cost of condoms.

Does anyone think that one partner is more responsible for paying for the condoms? Or does everyone agree that it's a pretty fair thing? The Pill seems different to me. My gut feeling is that it's the woman's responsibility. The again, my girlfriend started taking the Pill after I explained to her what it does and the benefits of it.

So whose responsibility is it to pay for condoms and/or the Pill?

I'd love to hear everyone's thoughts on this type of thing :)

It does seem like most of the time the guy buys the condoms... And if the girl is on the pill she pays for it. Maybe its time to buck the system.

I put my wife's pills on my drug plan (before she stopped taking them). When I was in high school I paid for every other month with my GF of the time...

My wife is the only girl I've been with that I knew was on the pill. She started on it before we got married. I always considered it part of my responsibility to help pay since I did not have to purchase condoms any longer.

I've always paid if I've been asked to, but at the same time, if i started dating a girl who's been on the pill for years and she decided that it was now my responsibility, I'd probably groan a bit. Not quite your situation but still something to think about .

I have always split 50/50 with my girlfriend too it's only fair and since we don't use condoms it's the least I can do!!

i usually payed for the condoms... but there were occasions when she would pick some up...

as for the pill... i would be willing to share the cost...

I never paid for the pill if the girl was on it before I knew her. In the couple of cases that she got on it due to our relationship, I did pay for half. This was before AIDS was a big problem. Since we were in an exclusive relationship we wouldn't use condoms. It seems pretty dumb now in light of the reality of the world, but it worked for us then :)

I had a girlfriend who was perpetually broke. Since I was perpetually horny (& employed) I paid for them. I never gave it a thought.

Split the cost. It's benefitting the both of you, no?

Ive never been in a relationship long enough to even consider this topic, but, If I was sexually active with my girlfriend, and in a committed relationship, I'd be paying half, minimum. As for condoms, most of the time, girls I meet have a condom in their purses/wallets/handbags, usually for that quick bang. But theres always one in my wallet, my glove box, my room...Which makes me think, is a condom in a hot car necessarily good?

Nope. Not good at all. If it's getting hot, then it will become dry and brittle, even if it's lubricated. Same reason one in a wallet is a bad idea. Friction + heat = no good for jimmy hat.

Just reading this - is the pill in the US not free? Over here it is (and you can get free condoms too...)

So why does the UK have such a teen pregnancy problem?

The pill is free in the UK? Damn, didn't know that. We pay for it here in Denmark (and yes, I pay half) - and we're the country with the supposed best health system, free doctors and hospitals etc...
