Attractiveness: Bulk vs Toned Body

Im asking the female posters (or gay males). What type of body is more attractive? A large bulky body or a lithe toned body?

TinniT 10-12-2003 10:42 AM

I'm not gay, but I like looking at men and women because I like to measure attractiveness. I often go out with my lady friends and we will look at men and women.

Typically, a guy who completely lacks muscle definition is not all that attractive (to me anyway).

However, I have a friend who really likes men with chubby bellies (not fat!). She likes her guys to have some meat on them, because she likes the cushiony sort of feel when she's lying on them (small girl).

The perfect looking male in my opinion is a middle man. A six pack, some meat on his chest (which is shaved) and not too much hair anywhere else, including his armpits.

above all things though, a confident person is much sexier than someone with no social skills who looks like a rat trapped in a cage.

I like that hard feel of the muscles. I'm not small (5'4") and fairly toned and strong so someone who is significantly stronger than me is so attractive to me.

I voted lithe because I wasn't sure if you were asking about muscle bulk or soft bulk. I like muscle bulk the most.

numist_net 10-12-2003 11:54 AM

how much muscle bulk though.. do you like bodybuilder bulk or biker bulk (or lesser thereof) I think is the question.

sailor 10-12-2003 12:01 PM

Shit, biker bulk... Bikers have NO bulk anywhere but their legs (which are freaking huge). They need to be as skinny as possible because any weight is something you are going to have to haul up the side of a mountain. Look at pics of bikers (Lance, Tyler Hamilton, Joseba Beloki, Jan Ullrich)... They are all incredibly skinny above the waist.

TinniT 10-12-2003 12:05 PM

yah. Especially since Bulk can be charactarized by many things. You can be bulked and toned. Or you can be stacked kind of bulk.

::shrug::

Kind of a weird poll now that i think of it in my opinion. I think its more of an absolution.. like, "which is *more* attractive. .. there is no middle.

I imagine this to be like.. Chris Farley vs . . Edward Norton.

SiN 10-12-2003 12:05 PM

lithe and toned.

analog 10-12-2003 08:58 PM

Like I can't vote myself...

bermuDa 10-13-2003 08:54 AM

i hope the ladies go for lithe and toned, I just don't have the body type for building up a lot of bulk

mattevil 10-13-2003 09:01 AM

i always thought swimmers and dancers had the best body shapes but I'm not really being asked here

Sleepyjack 10-13-2003 09:23 AM

As primarily a basketballer, I am some where inbetween, quite bulky but still toned a bit. It could either be the best or worst of both worlds?

That's what I go for. And from what I've seen on that webcam page, you look just fine to me :icare:

And that's enough creepy stalkerish talk out of me for today :o

collide 10-13-2003 12:28 PM

I'm in love with firm arms. Not just on men, but on women too. Tummies, thighs, all that stuff is great. Working out together is the best way to achieve this, all while spending time together. I guess some gyms have caught on to this and offer payment packages for couples, which is an added incentive.

p.s. From what I've seen, bermuDa's body type is ideal, so don't be so self-conscious. :p

gotta go for "bulky," as vague as that is

RAR!

I think you should have added a few more choices, those two don't really encompass every type of bodytype well.

Ill agree with you on that one. :D

motdakasha 10-13-2003 04:57 PM

i never understood bodybuilders and those who go for bulk amounts of muscle (toned or not).

toned and fit is what i prefer. (kinda like bermuDa. and i agree with collide: don't be so self-conscious.)

mew 10-13-2003 07:35 PM

Mm~Lithe and toned.. They are cute and cuddly at the same time. Too much muscles makes me feel like im hugging a rock. I wouldnt mind a little pudge to snuggle against either ;)

Let me cut an end to this lie before it stretches any further:

I was a wuss. I grew up a wuss an dlawyas considered myself a human coat hanger.

I did not want to accept it.

I did research.

Pardon me because i'm a bit buzzed and I do not remember the three different metabolisms, but you and I likely are the same metabolism.

Gaining weight is simple (but takes determination).

MUSCLE is protein. If you want more muscle, you have to eat and use more protein.

IF you eat 1 gram of protein ever day per pound you weigh (or even up to 70%) and run, lift weights, or any other phsyical activity for 30 mintues or more every other day to every 2 days, i *promise* you will exceed TREMENDOUS results.

I was a skinny stick who had no weight at all. I started drinking 60 grams of Designer Plus protein powder every day throughout the day along with a 38 gram Protein bar over the course of three snacks throughout the day, and I ended up gainign thirty pounds of MUSCLE in 2 months.

I worked out twice a week lifting only 15 pound weights and bulked up amazingly more than I was ever.

I went from 138 to 185 HEALTHY and I feel frickin' great because of it.

If you are any bit ashamed of being skinny, then you are not determined enough to make yourself more appealing within yourself.

All it takes is determination, and the results (if you eat 1gram per pound of protein) are FAST. I noticed a much bigger chest and greater circumfrence in my arms after only 2 weeks.

YOU have the power to make yourself as attractive as you want to be. It feels great to no longer be a stick. I actually have had the pleasure of "slobbin' it" here and there, and enjoying a little smack belly to hit. I like my little belly. I can (and ocacsionaly) build a six pack within 2 weeks because my metabolism burns both protein and carboyhydrates as equaly fast.

If you are unhapppy with yoru body type, then you DO have the power to change it.

Lunchbox7 10-14-2003 06:32 AM

It is not necessarily true that if you eat more and work out then you will put on more weight. Our bodies require 1 gram of protien for every kilogram of body weight. If your exercising heaps then you need a little more to help rebuild the muscles. But all the rest gets expelled in the urine. All these protein powders are a fallacy. You believe that you will get bigger from it so you train harder and thus get bigger. Self fullfilling prophecy.

There are 3 types of body types (somatotypes): ectomorph, mesomorph and endomorph. An ectomorph is tall and thin and has enormous trouble putting on weight (muscle or otherwise). Endomorphs are short and fat and have enormous trouble losing fat and putting on muscle. Mesomorph is what we all wish we were. They are medium height and build and put on muscle mass easily with out putting on fat. Most of us are a combination of these somatotypes but if your body type is further into one of the extremes then your going to adopt those characteristics of the somatotype. A Bruce Spence character is not going to put on muscle mass no matter what he does. Just look at all the body types in professional sport. There are athletes who train just as hard as everyone else in their team but they are stil fat or dont put on muscle mass.

Your body cant burn protein and carbohydrates equally fast. Human bodies dont work that way. They burn the carbo stores first followed by fat stores and protein stores last. You only burn protein stores as a matter of survival when you are starving to death.

You obviously have a body that responds to working out. Good on you. Congratulations. Not everyone is that lucky. Im by no means saying that these unfortunate souls should not work out or exercise. They can get fitter and stronger but no or minimal aesthetic difference will be seen.

bermuDa 10-14-2003 08:47 AM

I'm a combination of an ectomorph and an endomorph. I'm not really skinny (used to be) and I have been taking in protein and joined a gym (which i'm responding to well). Didn't mean to give the wrong impression of myself.

ps: thread jackers!! ;) let's get back on track.

so ladies (or guys), big and bulky or lithe and toned... discuss! :p
