To Get a vasectomy or not
I have been thinking about getting a vasectomy I have two kids and plan on not having anymore. But the ideal of a sharp knife down there does not apeal to me.I would like to here from guys that have had a vasectomy to see how you feel after you got yours.
|
Get it, you won't regret it. Had mine in May. The pain isn't what you think it will be, unless you're a total wimp for pain. I always say that I can't take pain, but all I really felt was the first needle, then some pressure.
|
Um , this is the second vasectomy thread started in one day. Is that as weird as I think it is?
|
The procedure is nothing. I'd rather do it again than go to the dentist.
I had mine on a thursday. Played icehockey (goalie) Fri night, and went snowboarding Sunday. While this level of activity may not be recommended it is just may way of saying this is not a big deal procedure. Take a couple of tylenol (my doctor told me to) before you head in, and even the needle won't hurt much. Just make sure you are sure about the decision in the first place. Talk to anyone who this might impact, etc. Don't let the procedure influence your decision. |
Nothing better than shootin' blanks...
|
ya i had mine done too, pain not bad and i got 40 count of vicodinES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! w00t

No pain during procedure - you are out beforehand. They used sodium pentathol or sim. so that you are "out of it", with no pain, yet you can cooperate, ie: move and get onto the gurney, etc. when they tell you to, without remembering anything after.
No regrets at all!!! I recommend it to all my friends. Do you have ANY IDEA how big a difference 3 kids are vs. 2???? REALLY?!?! My buddy has 3 and I haven't gone fishing with him or had beers with him more than once or twice in over a year since he had his third. Completely different deal. You have to worry about this until you are snipped. If you are done, you are done. There is nothing unmanly about having it done and there is no difference afterwards, except it isn't like tapioca lumps if it sits in there for a few days before spewage. Same spermy taste, now with no LUMPS! Really, just go and do it, no big deal. Sage words of advice to NOT IGNORE under penalty of pain and suffering: - Buy jock strap first and have it on for the first week solid at least. (I should have used it with the cup b/c the tots I have had radar for the sack it seemed - they didn't get to it, but I was uncomfortably on my guard for a while) - Lie down for two days and ice the area as much as possible. - Take ibu's or aleve or something to help it heal faster. People who don't lie on the couch for a couple days, but who try to prove manhood by re-shingling the roof the next day, end up taking weeks or months to recover. If you rent some dvd's, buy a bunch of snacks, be a bum for a couple days (wohoo!) then the initial surgery will have a chance to repair and you will be fine as long as you keep jock on for a week or two. The trick is (and that is what the jock is for) to not let them hang and swing and tear and hurt themselves until healed. Again - not a big deal - no real pain and now can have sex whenever with no worries, etc. etc. and no more setting the "18 years till no kids in the house" clock again... |
I'm sure this doesn't apply to every man, but I met a guy who had sex within hours of his surgery. Completely painless surgery as well as aftermath according to him. From others, I've heard that the surgery ain't no thang.

Thanks or the advice I will probbly get it done still a sharp down there sounds like a bad thing haha
|
wont hurt anywhere near what you think....... had mine done in 1984, still works fine. just no kids to have to worry about.
|
You might look into the newer scalpel-less procedure...that is what I had done about the same price, but no cutting therefore no scar...they don't even have to put any stitches in the small opening they make to cut the tubes...almost no pain involved, only the initial pain killer
|
Had mine done 2 years ago...we knew we didn't want any more kids after having 2 (1 boy, 1 girl). Best thing I ever did...
As for the pain, it was minimal and any pain suffered was worth it afterward. Not having to worry about shooting one past the goalie is worth any amount of pain you feel... |
I had one done earlier this summer... The whole procedure took 10 minutes and I was awake the whole time...
The worst part was the needles used to freeze and even they were mild. There was a little bit of discomfort for a day or so after but that was probably because I went golfing rather and taking it easy as was suggested in the pamphlet. I only have a few more weeks until I get tested to see if it worked. After that! No more condoms... I should also point out that it healed very nicely. You can see where the insicion was made but only if you look really close (and I encourage my wife to do this from time to time...) |
I plan to do this in 5 years or so. Still might have another child before then.
|
Just had mine done a few weeks ago. The only discomfort was the initial local anesthetic, which itched not hurt. In 20 mins it was over. I walked out and drove home.
A lightly stubbed toe hurts more. |
I watched my Husband get his done and it was quite interesting. He was not in a lot of pain, if only for a minute or two and the night he had it done, we went out to dinner and shopping. So that should tell you that it isn't that bad.
He did have a lot of bruising and it looked very funny....But it all went away. |
It takes the worry out of being close. I've always been glad I had it done.
|
One of my friends said now it burns a little when he comes now right where he figures the tube was cut. Is this common?
|
Not for me...
|
I had the snip over 10 years ago now, there was no pain, if I had to describe the feeling, it would be like being kicked in the nads three weeks ago, you know, tenderness and memory combine to make you careful, but nothing more.
What you CAN look forward to is your mates bringing you presents while recooperating, I received : A punnet of Gooseberries A basket of plums (from the 60 year ols spinster next door!) Seedless grapes you can get the picture right? |
I had one 6 years ago. Took 2 hours because the doc had trouble finding the tube on the left side. He basically went digging around for a bit. They kept me stoned on morphine, so I wasn't in pain, though I don't like the feeling when they pull on the tube and you feel it in your ear. I swelled up big time and sat with ice on my nards for 3 day. Still glad I had it done, didn't want more than 3 kids. The doc later said it would have been helpful if I'd told him I'd been kicked there really hard playing basketball years before. The nurse that was there always smiles at me when I see her in town. Not sure what that's about.

It was no big deal. I would say slight discomfort rather than pain.
EleqTrizi'T's analogy of "a lightly stubbed toe hurts more" is about right. |
Only thing... you want to be absolutely sure you have finished your family
|
Thanks for all the advice
