Hmmm...I kinda thought that it was self-explanitory, but reading back, I guess not. My daughter is 16, and as such, that particular 16 year old is to young. That being said, I was 16 when I lost my virginity to a 17 year old, and that fact is not lost on me. Double standard? You're damn right it is, but I claim parental perogative on this one. Of course she could be 25 and I still would think that she is to young. It's a perspective thing.

i think there's a distinct difference between ocularity and sexuality. i know i enjoy looking at women, and that given the current fashion trends and maturity-rate, it sometimes goes down to 16 or 17 years old 'fore i realize that i'm casing some prime jail material.
that said, i think it's a huge risk to engage in sexual activity with anyone younger than a college student. having noted the huge difference in maturity and philosophical outlook in me when i got through my first year in college, i would assume the same change of personality in anyone else. therefore, anything below a college student i think is too large a gap.

a good portion (10-25%) of my college are students who are under 18 and as young as 15. i recently went on a camping trip with a club at my college and more than half weren't of drinking/gambling age. where am i going with all this nitpicking?
my point is that when it comes to age, it's very unsafe to assume you're safe based on general observations (like college students are older than 16 or 17). if you happen to meet that needle-in-a-haystack-minor and assume she's older just because she's in college, you can get yourself into a lot of trouble (here, at least). you're better off asking instead of assuming.

as for the guy above, thinking it's all cool if a girl can buy alcohol may work in this country, but be warned if she got it via fake ID or if you ever visit outside of the US. things are very different elsewhere. the average drinking age is 18, but can go even lower and is not as enforced as it is here.

In England its 16 years old, but even worse is Holland where the legal age for sex is 12. Unbelievable, but true.

I'm not suggesting or condoning anyone's thoughts about 6 year olds but if it stays a thought no one's the wiser and it can't hurt. I think in reality 18 should be it. I totally agree with you there. Emotions that come with sex can often mess younger people up. A study done in Australia recently found that theres 50% or so chance of girls in single-mother families to experience sex at an age earlier than 16, and on the other hand, in the female spectrum, girls between the ages of 14-16 are the most depressed, interesting facts. IMO, 14 is THE absolute minimum, no matter what, and thats if your under 20. If your over 20, I think I'd be sticking to the level of the law, which here where I live is 16.

Well, if you even look too close at the face of a 35 year old married mother in Jemen it might get you killed. If you fuck around with a women you are not married to in Turkey you could end up in jail.

This is more a question of what each one of us thinks should be a legal or reasonable age.

I know quite a lot of teenagers since I teach. Most of them, even when they are close to 18, don't know anything about life, family, politics, society and so on.
To think that they could be fucking around and starting to get pregnant at this age or even below makes me loose my breakfast to the great white god.

Well answering this one from a girls perspective is a tough one... I was too you when I started, but I was stupid plus in a situation where there was not alot of options... But I can say by 14 I was personally mature enough to know what I was doing and especially to really really like it... Now I do know girls whos heads are not at that point at 14. But hey for me it was great.

To me the issue isn't even about what their bodies look like. Their mind is the real issue. That being said, I doubt any girl sub 18 is capable of dealing with it in a mature manner.

I would say in terms of my own daughter. I think 18 should be the limit of course that will depend on her maturity. BUT if she's determined and I feel she's mature enough then I think 16 would be the lowest limit. No matter what birth control choice that a girl makes there is still a small risk of pregnancy. For a girl under 16 to get pregnant is a big risk for her, disrupts her still maturing body, and under 16 she is not even able to support herself financially with a job without her parents consent. If you aren't mature and old enough to raise kids I don't think you should be fooling around. That said I was 24 before having sex and hubby was 21.

Imho, the age of consent should be 18.

what i dont get is...when i was 14 to 15 and up i never was thinking about sex and now im a month away from being 20 all i see around me is girls from the ages of 14 to 16 looking like they are 18 to 20 years old. what happened here? i never remember girls looking that way when i was that young and also whats going on where girls and boys are expermenting with sexual stuff right out of 5th grade!?!?! i mean damn what happened to our country? :confused:

I am 26 and I don't think I have anything to gain mentally or physically from a young girl. Some are great to look at, but they do not have enough experience with life, sex, or the ways of the world to promote a mutually benefitical relationship.

I do understand the reason to have a legal age limit to concentual sex, but I can also see where a younger person, male or female, could learn a lot from dating someone older. IF the older person has a truly altruistic motive.

It totally depends on the age level of the participants. IMO, if the girl is under age 18, the guy better not be much older than 19. There is just too much of a difference in maturity at that age. When I was 18, I met 3 girls at a mall (13, barely 15 and 16). I ended up sleeping with one of the girls (the 15 year old who said she was 16) a few weeks later on. There are certainly a lot of 14-16 year olds that are "hot". I know of a couple daughters of friends that look much older than their 14 years. One has fake ID that says she's 20!

Well, sorry to go against the flow here.... but I just got out of a relationship with a 16 yr. old. And she just turned 16 too. Both her and my parents were ok with it, so we saw no reason to hold ourselves back from being together. She was much more mature at 15 and 16 then most 30 yr olds can even dream of.

i did a lot of water quality studies when i was in high school with the state and we found that when water was purified, estrogen wasnt filtered out... so basically on top of what a young girl's body produces theyre getting even more out of tap water. and theyre starting to believe that is another reason for girls maturing so fast. kinda scary if they dont figure out something to do about that.

I say 17. I noticed a big jump in maturity between guys and girls who are 16 and those who are 17, though my girlfriend was 17 and I was 16.

already been said, but its really the maturity of the person. My g/f's first was when she was 15, with me. I think that, for the most part, 14 is too young, but if you are able to truly think responsibly about it, then you are old enough, I think. (then again, that excludes a lot of my friends here in college, whose mental age is in the single digits :P )

since highschool kids are like 14-18, then 14 is the min if you yourself are in hs. once you hit college, try to stick with college kids or older hs kids (aka 17+)

Im in my late 30's and I find womyn near to my age, and 10 years either side my age sttractive. I can't imagine being with anyone younger than 26.

I think 18 is as young as it should go--anything below that and it starts making people think it's ok to go for girls younger than that when they're too old. girls younger than that may be mature, but for the sake of society it's much better if we don't go lower.
