What are the pros & cons? I am considering approaching the subject with my girl but I need a to know what the pitfalls are and/or benefits.

Thoughts on those who have tried it.

But seriously... I'm surprised at this question. It's mostly common sense and (believe it or not) experience.

Somethings to consider.

There are many different "standing up" positions. Just like "lying down" positions.

Up against a wall.
Up against a wall, from behind (ie her face to the wall).
Her legs wrapped around you.
Standing up, and her bent over...

This list goes on and on.

If you're face to face, against a wall for example, your different heights may have to be considered. You might have to bow your knees slightly.

If she's wrapped her legs around you and "lowers" herself on to you, you can get very deep penetration. Some girls love this. Some girls find it painful.

All in all, the more positions you try the better.

just don't do what most young guys do when they get too excited and try too many positions one after the other in one session...

It takes some practice, but it can be great.

The most common for us is the "standing doggy". It's the easiest to make work.

Face to face standing up always scares me. I've heard horror stories of penises getting injured when the women slips and falls onto the penis. Ouch!! My penis hurts now. Safe bet is standing doggy style.

I did the standup last night, oddly enough. Its great. I didnt even feel her weight. She got tired pretty fast though, so I dont recommend it for the only position, but like a transitional one like between the couch and floor.

I can, for one reason or another, never get the standing up think to work with my wife.

It uses quite a few muscles that you may not be used to working. My wife and I enjoy the standing doggie position that was mentioned earlier. We do it with her using the bed to put her head and hands on.

my legs get noodle-y after I come while standing, and i have the opposite problem as most of the guys here: my girlfriend and I are the same height, but naturally her legs are longer so I would have to end up standing on books or pillows or something. it's even worse if she's wearing platform shoes which are all the rage these days :-/

This may seem obvious, but you could stand on the floor in front of a couch or bed while she is kneeling, doggy style, in front of you. You would be standing up, but she wouldn't. It would be *really easy* for her and give her lots of penetration.

In the shower is the best. Facing each other or doggie style works. And being shorter than my wife makes it a perfect fit. Legs/calves do get tired, though.

if you can't get her to do the "standing" sex by asking, it's much easier to approach it differently. start when you are stripping each other and just turn her around and start bending her over. once she starts getting it, she'll love it. it provides some really great sensation for most ladies.
