Without making any claims as to its reliability or how common it is - it occurs to me that one of the most tricky things about being homosexual would likely be

1) identifying likely partners
2) identifying supportive friends

These are tricky enough for straight guys. (Myself included). But the odds are much worse for gays. So... if a conversation style, clothing or look helps helps some gays/homosexuals/bisexuals identify each other, I can imagine that some may deliberately or unconsciously (?) amplify that on occasion. Both for the above reasons and perhaps also, to throw down the gauntlet to the rest of us. Something like - "if you are going to disapprove, show your views now".

Well there's my bullshit hypothesis. Make of it what you will. It's quite possibly wrong..

Perhaps to further inflame this touchy subject - there seem to be highly codified/patterned exchanges between hetro guys at work (insulting each other, or football related) and between some girls (~15 mins of exclamations and OMGs before starting what seems like normal conversation).

I'm not qualified in this area.

My guess is that these are all some variety of handshake/protocol exchanges. I probably do it myself with my friends (I'm hetro) - but in a different way that I cannot detect. Dunno. There must be people who have researched all this properly, in the social sciences or humanities depts?

To paraphrase the former Prime Minister of Canada... the government has no place in the bedrooms of the people.

As far a sexual relations are concerned, between two consenting adults, I am not certain that we should judge or create laws that prevent people from doing as they like.

I have no problem with incest and polygamy per se. Rather, I have the same issue with these items as I have with statutory rape... We, as a society, have drawn a reasonable line in the sand as to what consenting means. Statutory rape requires that one participant be on the wrong side of the age of consent. In the case of incest and polygamy, most problems with these two acts stem from situations where either a) one party is clearly on the wrong side of the age of consent or, b) on the weak side of an authority/family figure. It throws into question, the element of consent.

As far as actual consenting adults engaging in these acts (incest and polygamy), I am not so troubled (understanding that incest will almost always have the issue of the question of consent over it, and will therefore be problematic to say the least... which is why, I said per se above).
