question about vasectomies

I've been thinking about vasectomies lately and I just have one question on what it does exactly. Well I mean, I know it prevents you from having babies but my question is, if getting a vasectomy done stops you from ejaculating, then can you go on for hours and hours and never stop? and is it possible to still get an orgasmic like feeling, or is that pretty much out of the picture?

A vasectomy stops the sperm, not the ejaculating. You're still producing semen, just not sperm.

There are still happy endings after a vasectomy, just not any with sperm in them.

The Jazz has it right.

I had one and there is no noticeable difference in my semen, libido or performance. I'm 35.

I can't comment on taste but then that's not my bag.

No difference in any way before and after snip snip.

Sounds like THE Perfect Birth Control EVER!

Meanwhile ladies everywhere why they haven't asked their man to be the ONE to take care of this issue.

I have one. No change at all in my sexual performance. However, I do get a little itch in the left testicle area during arousal now -- it comes and goes, but definitely odd.

Any opinions on whether it is reliably or easily reversible? My partner and I have toyed around with the idea of me getting a vasectomy but seeing as how we want children eventually, we'd want it to be reversible.

Also, for those who have had one (and also for those who have had the reversal surgery), did health insurance cover it or was it out of pocket?

dlish 06-25-2010 12:01 AM

as far as i've read its not easily reversible.

if you do decide to have one, chances are, even if you do get it revered you'll never have any more children.

i think you should be having this conversation with your doctor, and probably a urologist who would be able to give you the information that you need to make an informed decision.

DON'T DO IT!

Having a vasectomy was the biggest mistake of my life. Seriously. Sex is fine but I will NEVER have children.

I had a reversal after 10 years and my little swimmers just sit around in lounge chairs watching the game and consuming beer and chips.

Sedge 06-25-2010 09:29 PM

Well boys...it all depends on your situation. Simply put, if you've decided no more kids is for you, then clip-clip. If your mate ain't so sure, this could lead to long term issues. Mine walked. That was painful, but it was the right thing, for I was out of the baby business. Now she's married and happy with two young'uns, and we're still friends, and thank higher powers that it's not me with another set of little kids to sheperd through life.

Yeah, as others have said, you need to be absolutely, 100% sure you don't want to produce any (more) children. Absolutely sure. As in, imagine you meet the woman of your dreams, but having kids is a requirement for her...My recollection for the procedure I had done was about 80% chance of a successful reversal after 1 year, dropping to very little chance of successful reversal at 5+ years out.

I got mine done. It was...interesting. Highly uncomfortable. They anesthetize, of course, but the tubes are attached to various places in your abdomen, which they can't completely block. So be prepared for the feeling of being very gently kicked in the scrotum for about 30 minutes during the procedure, and some discomfort afterwards. Not too bad, though. Compared to, you know, giving birth, or paying child support. :-)

For a year or so afterwards I would have some discomfort in the testicular area at times, but that seems to have faded. Other than that...absolutely glad I had it done. We already have four kids, and if we really want more down the road, we'll adopt.

OTOH, my wife did have some regrets afterwards, but mostly just the desire to have *babies*, not more kids, if you get the idea.

It affects your sex life not at all physically, big time emotionally/intellectually (no worries!). It's quick, almost painless, and you're back in action pretty quickly (use condoms until the post-op test says it's ok). And don't worry if the surgeon says "Ooops! Damn it!" It means nothing... at least that's what he keeps telling me. ;)

Hektore 06-26-2010 06:03 PM

Amano: If you intend to have children at some point in the future, then a vasectomy is not for you. I seriously doubt if you tell your doctor that you intend to get it reversed in the future that they will even do it for you.

GSRIDER 06-26-2010 06:45 PM

You can even get blue balls. Nothing changes, it looks the same, it comes out the same it's just not going to impregnate anyone.

The first nut is the scariest, you hope it doesn't hurt. Then they want you to clear 20 loads before coming back in to check the content of the sperm.

I got mine 5 years ago and am very happy I did. 3 kids is enough.

LordEden 06-26-2010 08:56 PM

Didn't Glory's asshole have a blog about this? It was awesome.

Yeah... if you want kids, don't get this. That's all I can say about it.

Titan_Uranus 06-28-2010 05:21 AM

Worth it ,not as painful as people say ,anyways 2's enough .
