Masturbation and cough meds?
Normally, I don't take cough medicine. After a week of coughing, finally I caved and took 15mg of dextromethorphan twice yesterday.
I started masturbating before bed, and noticed that my clitoris felt really, really numb. It was very annoying and ended up taking about 30 minutes to achieve orgasm, whereas I'm usually done in a few minutes. I made a mental note to look up any correlation between low-dose dxm (which is a dissociative anesthetic, especially at high doses, as my friends who've done it at recreational doses are all too well-aware) when I awoke. It only made sense that if it would numb cilia to inhibit the cough-reflex, it could numb the vulva. So in an attempt to find a correlation between vulval anesthesia and NMDA receptor antagonists (which dxm and things like ketamine, tramadol, and methadone are), I ran across a fun article: Analgesic synergism between AP5 (an NMDA receptor ... [Pharmacol Biochem Behav. 1998] - PubMed result Now first: how in the hell did they set up that experiment? Whose bright idea was it to cervically stimulate rats? And second: what sort of apparatus would be used? Does this apparatus vibrate, and are there controls? I digress. That particular article didn't give me a conclusive determination. I did find a few articles relating NMDA receptor antagonists to a reduction in labor pain, so I assume that yes, the dextromethorphan probably was the culprit in my elongated masturbation session. Maybe this could be marketed as a way for men to last longer, rather than having to use a topical anesthetic that could potentially reduce the stimulation for their partner? Just take an anti-tussive and have great stamina! Or a loss of erection...hmm... |

I'm going to be honest, I'm not quite sure if you're asking a question or stating a position...but I don't think I've been this confused by a post in a while... Allow me to explain...
Cough medicine = being sick, that sucks, hate to hear that. Masturbation before bed = ok, getting good Numb clit = that sucks, but at least you finished. Recreational cough medicine usage = interesting Correlation between vulval anesthesia and NMDA receptor antagonists = geeky science talk is hot Cervically stimulated rats = err... what sort of apparatus? did it vibrate? = full-on brakes great stamina, longer lasting, etc... = still stuck on cervical rat stimulation and the vibrating rat apparatus... It was a roller coaster ride, I'll say that much... |

the title of this thread alone was enough to send me into a small fit of laughter.
regarding your closing line. i've done DXM on multiple occasions. ive ended up on rooftops, ended up in the forest, even ended up on a bike wobbling through town. but ive NEVER ended up with a boner. but if you did pop some viagra or cialis or whatever the kids (yes, kids) are taking these days, you may just be able to tear a vag to pieces. assuming, that is, you can concentrate on the task. even though it seems like a horrible idea, i see the potential for a small experiment.

Strangely enough I knew a guy who swore by cough syrup when it came to sex. He had a medicine cabinet full of it and tried to push the idea on anybody who listen to him "Try it dude! No really, a few shots just before seriously try it!" I don't think I ever got around to experimenting with it though...
...and in honesty I have completely forgotten where I was going with that...so um back to...what are we talking about in here? Oh right vulva anesthesia and rat vibrators. How would you like to be the intern that got that job? "Yeah its easy just take the tweezers and this little device..."

I know SSRIs had an effect of making it harder to orgasm, but they didn't make it feel numb.
I wonder if they studied alcohol vs cough medicine to see if it was the alcohol in both that was impacting the brain more than the active ingredients in the cough medicine. |

lirpa, if you haven't yet, read , by Mary Roach. It's all about the history of sex research. Cervically stimulating rats is just the beginning. People study some wacky stuff.
I applaud your do-it-yourself attitude, with regard to this particular scientific discovery. ![]() |

Thanks! I'll have to check that out. And like all good scientific discoveries, this one was completely accidental. ---------- Post added at 05:40 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:36 PM ---------- Quote:
A few years ago, there was a friend of mine who did ecstacy, and I kept trying to convince her that anal stimulation feels really intense on ecstacy. We were hanging out one night when she was on it, and I asked her to let me put my finger in her butt. Unfortunately, she didn't think it was as great as I had, and so that was the last of my "trying to convince people something feels good" attempts. |
