why would this be a desirable cooking ingredient? I don't get it. It only gets attention because people think it's kinky. Like an entire book on making recipes with one main ingredient really. Eh.

Gross. And I highly doubt it has any unique properties one couldn't get from another ingredient. It's just for surprise-factor. Not to mention the possibility of passing on diseases if this became widely practiced if ever anything was undercooked.
