I firmly believe that people won't do anything drunk that they didn't want to sober, the difference is the level of inhibition and concern for consequences. Drunk is one thing, past the ability to think is another.

But on the other hand, young people who say they want to do (like the 13-year-olds screwing people in their '20s) may think it's OK at the time and have more lasting problems arise as they mature and develop cognitive dissonance and warped views of relationships and authority figures. A disabled adult is not likely to fully develop a higher level of emotional maturity or cognitive ability that allows this psychological damage. She is likely as able to consent and understand the consequences of her actions as she will ever be, and therefore less likely to suffer harm. Or what if she were to have a relationship with someone on the same developmental level as her? Wouldn't that be like two 14-year-olds together as far as consent laws?

I think that calling it Paedophillia is incorrect as paedophiles are not necessarily about after control, but sexual undevelopment. People who are retarded, unless it is extremely severe, still have the abilty to consent to sex or not, and more importantly, they enjoy it; it is not inflicted on them. What I see as the most important aspect of the relationship between a person with normal IQ and someone with a retarded IQ is the overwhelming difference in power and control. She would virtually be his slave because she would not be able to take an equal part in the decision making or other aspects of the relationship. Many of us males may dream about a sex slave in the abstract, but the reality involves exploitation and persecution, something few of us would be prepared to accept in our lives, or for our children.

I've been thinking about this since posting my standard "it's about consent" post. You don't really get to choose who you love. I've fallen for very, very smart women and women with shall we say attractive and endearing attributes other than a very high IQ. Having a long and in depth debate about the benefits and drawbacks of a two-state solution in Israel or exploring evolutionary biology in primates isn't necessary for the trust, respect, attraction, affection, equality, patience and forgiveness involved in a healthy and happy relationship.

I dunno, considering that there are so many different incarnations of the broad term "mentally retarded", and each person really is unique. I don't think I could give a definitive answer to the question.

Where did I say that anyone's incapable of realizing what they're doing or that anyone should be deprived of sex? I'm merely saying that most mentally challenged adults are more trusting and that there are people (see above) who would be delighted to take advantage of their often too sweet and willing to please nature.

I see it on a case by case basis. If the DD person has shown interest in the opposite, or hell, same sex and the person they're going out with is responsible, then I don't have a problem with it. I don't think it's a choice I'd make, but I guess I can understand it.
