Phallic symbolism
Ok. Sometimes a banana is just a banana. But the symbolism in this video just has to be intentional, right?
What do you think? Am I crazy? Specifically, look around 4:45 into it. I mean...really. |
That was awfully strange. And actually kind of cool.
4:45 looked pretty neat, but I didn't catch anything symbolic in that. |
So, I went to a local gay bar for a drag show tonight, and I'm pretty sure someone slipped something into my drink.
All I see are sloth claws and penises. Eeegh... |
If anything, 4:45 reminded me of a sand worm....
|
See at 4:45 into this I saw a flower - kinda like a sunflower infact
I can't see anything phallicly symbolic throughout the clip though |
I think it's less phallic and more exotic. The monkeys, bananas, island life, etc. gained a lot of popularity in the '50s post WWII as the soldiers from the pacific came back experiencing cultures they didn't know. As they came back, they relayed the stories of the natives and it sparked interest in the fantasies of Americans. Hawaii was never a vacation point until post-WWII, and has exploded since then.
And I say the banana trees are a great excuse to have monkeys in a club. Now if they could put them in tuxes and teach them to deliver drinks... I want to go to a bar like that. |

I like the ejaculation out of her head at the end. A good finish. |

I mean...really? Not phallic at all? Not doubting you, it's just... Anyway, I just was wondering if other people saw it as phallic, and especially if the creators intentionally created it that way or not. |

Well now that you put it that way it does sort of look like a fruity gangbang. I just failed to see that before!

One big ad for Dole bananas.

extremely phallic.Whenever people go on a frenzy about sex in modern pop culture, I always like to point back to that time. Many of her songs are filled with double entendres and sexual innuendo.
As an aside, two curious facts: - Carmen Miranda, despite being always associated with Brazil, was actually Portuguese. - This whole thing was part of a larger effort of the American government to promote ties with certain countries in Latin America which sympathized with Germany and Italy. It was the "good neighbor"policy, which also saw things like the Disney movie about the "three gay caballeros:" Donald Duck, Panchito and Jose Carioca. I remember back in highschool during some global issues class (or something like that) that someone actually thought that it was the norm in Brazil to wear fruit on their heads and so on. |
See when you put it that way I can see it ...
Guess my view of phallic symbolism gets a bit skewed after watching girls with dildoes and other interesting apparati (the plural of apparatus? I prefer it to apparatuses) for 10 hours straight. Busy busy week with chinese new year and then Australia Day. |
I love that movie....xoxoxoo
