STD testing
A few years ago I requested to be tested with my general practitioner, he asked if I had any physical symptoms and since I had not he informed me that any tests were basically unnecessary. I thought several STD’s which can be tested for have the possibility of remaining dormant for more then a 6 month period but he is a doctor… In the end I took his advice and was only tested HIV/AID. Now I am few relationships down the road and would like to be tested again more as a proactive action for any future partners benefit then a current worry. I looked around online and found a few places that offer more then just a HIV/AID test but every one seemed to want $250 or more. I do not mind spending the money, but at the same time it would be nice if my insurance could absorb some of the cost. Anyone willing to share some suggestions on my situation?
Thanks for any advice. |

Without knowing location IRL there's only so much advice I can give you - I know here in Aus there are generally free clinics you can go to (planned parenthood type places) that offer free testing services.
I would check around for some of those myself. Personally I think your Dr is a quack - even if you were a virgin there is a chance that you would be carrying a dormant STI. You were reponsible to want to get checked and no way in heck should he have simply waved away your concerns in that fashion. If you wanted to get tested for polio or anthrax or the black plague as long as you were serious about it he should have given you the information and helped you to get the tests done. It's not a Dr's place to make decisions about your health, they should simply supply you with the information you need to be fully conscious of the consequences of YOUR decisions. Never listen to your Dr just because he's a Dr, they're still human and therefore capable of making mistakes.
