During the entire four years of my college career (I just graduated this May, btw), there has been this amazingly beautiful, insanely intelligent girl who I've been most interested in, and who has at least been somewhat responsive to me in a most positive way. We never got together, however, simply because A) I was too neurotic B) she was a little neurotic/maybe confused herself C) both too busy to really start something.

Now that we both are graduated, however, I know that I'm not anywhere as busy (just working to save up some money to move out west and pursue a career writing for television), and frankly, I want to try to hook it up with her while she's still in the area (she's an international student, and they have a year to find a job to sponsor their citizenship).

I know that from talking to people who know people who know her that she's still in the area, and I reckon that I can find out how to contact her through those means. Do you guys think this is a good idea? Is so, what should I say when I call her up? Any insight on how to proceed would be most appreciated.

There's nothing worse in this world than 'NO' and that's not so bad anyway. If you never ask her out then you will regret it for the rest of life and if you ever date someone again you will resent them for not being the insanely beautiful and insanely intelligent girl.

First Advice From My Pal That Has Sold Scripts in the industry, and knows more than I ever will

Buy yourself a cannon GL1 on ebay. Write you own movies and make them.

My Advice

The Area around hollywood is expensive. Plus enough people come here to get inspired. I believe that your own city will inspire you more.

Send your Specs to a few reputable agents and see if you get any responses.

As a writter you do not need to be here, unless of course this is where you want to be.

Research out how many scripts are written every year.

Research how many Film school grads cant get jobs in the industry.

Hint... Dont Pay For Film School. Dont pay for people to read your scripts (even though some writting magazines recommend it).

Another Hint From my Friend who has an MFA from UCLA if you need equipment sign up for one production class at a college that has it all and use theirs.

I do appreciate that advice too Sid, but I'm more interested in TV than film at the moment (though maybe eventually...). I know that the two industries are intrinsically linked with each other, but from what I've heard, breaking into tv is a bit easier than film... and trust me, MN is not that inspiring

Chase you dreams by all means..... I just want to give you a realistic look at what happens if you are "lucky" (I am not sure even if you do get a position you are lucky) enough to get a position involved with TV.

TV writers has to put up with an enormous amount of crap, and put in a ridiculous amount of hours. Are you planning on trying to get on as staff writer? Network shows have ton of people apply for those positions, and lots of them have previous tv experience. Most likely you are thinking of trying out for a lesser known show? Even those are difficult and most Likely You wont get a writing job at first. On top of that they will be treating a new person like crap. (Oh yeah you will be getting paid next to nothing) You will get caught in a loop where you feel like you are going nowhere for years. Maybe you will get out of the loop and some do.

After awhile you likely will start using the little and I mean little free time you have to write screenplays. It will be good way to spend the time, since at first you will have no money (well unless you come with a lot of money.)
