Question about yaz
So anymore yaz has become a pretty common birth control method but i was curious about its effectiveness and proper use. Anyone who is one yaz can you help me understand what constitutes a missed pill. How many hours late do you have to be before it is a missed pill? My girlfriend regularly takes her yaz an hour or two late and I wanted to know if this is going to end up with the two of us getting pregnant. What constitutes the need to use a condom in conjunction with yaz. How does yaz work? Does it make it so the uterous isn't fertile because i would assume so considering the uterian lining is so thing when menstration occurs? Any insight would be appreciated.

YAZ is not really any different from any other form of hormonal birth control in that it is made up of a synthetic estrogen and progestin (synthetic progesterone) combination; what makes YAZ different is the use of drospirenone as the progestin--drospirenone is closer to natural progesterone than other progestins. Birth control pills work by preventing ovulation; a secondary action of combination pills is a thickening of the cervical mucus, making it difficult for sperm to pass through the cervix and into the uterus.
A missed pill means just that--a missed pill, usually due to forgetfulness. A late pill is different--it requires no doubling up. An hour or two late is not a big deal, but it's a good idea to take the pill at the same time every day--not only so that the level of hormone in the system stays even, but so that the pill is not forgotten. Taking a pill should be part of a routine. You should always double-up on birth control methods if you're not willing to deal with the consequences of a child. The burden of birth control should be shared between partners. Using a barrier method such as condoms is always a smart choice in conjunction with a hormonal method like a birth control pill.
