Him feeling burning during period sex?!?

OK, this just came up, and I've never ever heard of this.

The guy I'm kinda "seeing" right now said that the one time he had sex with a gal while she was on her cycle (they were teens at the time), he experienced an uncomfortable, mildly burning sensation, which has put him off ever trying that again.

Burning?!? What the heck? Can anyone explain this to me?

By the way, both of us are absolutely, certifiably healthy and clean.

telekinetic 04-18-2008 12:50 PM

Assuming he was doing it uncovered, maybe the blood thinned the natural (or artificial) lubricant and generated too much friction?

That's my best guess...I've never had a problem with it.

yes, same thing happened to me. it lasted for a few days.

I won't do it again. Most uncomfortable thing ever.

it was like, urethra burning.

blahblah454 04-18-2008 01:19 PM

Are you serious? I have sex with the woman on her period all the time and I have never experienced anything even close to this! If anything its more wet, with less friction.

mixedmedia 04-18-2008 01:19 PM

I've never heard of this...sex during my period has never been a problem. Could just be related to ph levels during menstruation for some women, I suppose...

Daniel_ 04-18-2008 01:28 PM

MM nailed it, I'm pretty sure.

Menstrual blood can upset pH balance.

Low pH can certainly cause burning on the penis.

Shauk 04-18-2008 02:01 PM

so, go in to more depth as to what that means? I'm not really up on my biology.

Daniel_ 04-18-2008 02:08 PM

Blood changes the nutrients available in the "lady garden".

Bacteria and yeasts that live there do better or worse than the rest of the month when the blood comes.

The pH (the acidity) inside the vagina is dependent on the mix of bacteria that are doing well at that time.

Low pH = increased acidity.

The urethra is very sensitive to acid (makes it burn like a bastard), so a tiny decrease in pH can make a huge change in discomfort.

mixedmedia 04-18-2008 02:08 PM

ph levels pertain to the relative levels of acidity and alkalinity in the human body. These fluctuate normally, but I'm not well-versed on why...but I think it's safe to assume that they could fluctuate in women during menstruation, making the vaginal tissue more acidic than it would be normally.

Let me see if I can find something...

well, never mind...the doctor is in :p

Here we go:

There are a variety of causes of vaginal pH imbalance, among which are certain antibiotics that destroy healthy bacteria, overused or retained tampons, intrauterine and other contraceptive devices, and changes in pH before and after menstrual periods. Even daily habits can disrupt the vagina's pH balance. Not only can diet and exercise influence pH, but the introduction of male secretion and certain soaps, both of which can have pH values well in excess of 7, can also raise the pH of the vagina and compromise the stability of this environment.

Howdy Sultana: Good to see you around...I was kinda wondering where you were sometime earlier this week :icare: All in all, sounds like things are moving along if you're up against this particular...um...situation. For the record, I've never experienced anything like what your man ran into...

ShaniFaye 04-18-2008 02:28 PM

I asked Dave he says he's never experienced it either (with me....Im the only one thats ever let him have sex during that time lol)

Shauk 04-18-2008 02:34 PM

great so yeah, the feeling was akin to feeling like pouring acid down the inside of my penis, that sounds fairly accurate.

no thanks.

Sounds like you could 'test the waters' before entering.

Oh that was a bad joke... :)

Mephex 04-18-2008 04:33 PM

Wow, good to know. Never experienced it, but tbh, I've not really had the urge.

telekinetic 04-18-2008 04:36 PM

this is a problem easily solved with a condom.

Willravel 04-18-2008 04:38 PM

I've been to the third degree rug burn ward, but this sounds different.

What MM said.

ItWasMe 04-18-2008 05:50 PM

It sounds like she had a yeast infection. That can burn him like the dickins on his outside, his inside, or both. The fact that she was on her period at that time might have just been a coincidence.

EDIT: Did she feel uncomfortable afterwards, at all?

I didn't think to ask, I was so suprised at the whole thing, I initially thought he was joking: "Evil bleeding woman made me BURN!"

No, he didn't actually say that, but it would have been funny if he had...I mean, he might as well, because I think I actually laughed at him at that point. If he had said his dick turned purple, I would have been less surprised, I think. :surprised:

I'll admit to not being an expert on these things, but don't women usually know when they have a yeast infection?

ktspktsp 04-18-2008 06:40 PM

Hmm, I've never had such an experience. The pH explanation seems logical..

blahblah454 04-18-2008 08:43 PM

Note to self: get litmus paper...

Some women are more in tune with their bodies than others.

I'm betting on the pH explanation.

In the early stages it's understandable that a woman might not be aware she is developing an overabundance of yeast. She could feel a little discomfort or irritation and attribute it to something else. Like with a cold or other illness, sometimes you don't know until you know.

It's one of the ways that you can tell early on, before the 'discomfort' spreads elsewhere. That doesn't necessarily mean you will tell. It could depend on how sensitive your partner is.

And you'll find that YI's can/cannot be contagious to a sexual partner. It depends where you read, or which doctor you ask. Go figure.

Sultana: was the guy circumcised? (not that I really need to know this :D)

*off to find a happy thread*

I think there are so many possibilities here (it could have even been his sensitivity to something she had eaten earlier) that it's pointless to figure out something you'll never know for sure. I doubt it had anything to do with her menstrual cycle.

Remind him he's not a teenager anymore, you're not that gal, and hopefully he'll be ready to put a past incident behind him. ;)

If that doesn't work, just jump him mid-cycle. :p
