Saying I love you

This is directed toward couples not married or engaged. How many of you have told your mate, "I love you" during sex? My girlfriend and I say that to each other all the time and helps make our sex fantastic. We've been together several months and really do love each other, but I know from experience that sometimes saying that during sex can freak a person out.

I had an ex tell me this when I lost my virginity to him.

I had said it a week before or so, and then he said it while we were having sex for the first time. It ruined the moment. It also didn't help that I was in a lot of pain at the time. It's really not something to be said when taking a girl's virginity unless you've said it before, for pete's sake.

My SO and I don't say it during. We say it after.

Depends on the situation I guess. My ex came out to visit a year ago and the day her flight landed was the first time I told her I loved her. She said she loved me too and it was great. But it was even better when we got back to my place; we were having sex, she pushed my head up, looked me straight in the eyes and told me she loved me. That was the best sex we had all week.

Personally, I think it is wonderful to remind eachother of why you are being intimate in the first place. I have done so in the past, and had it said to myself. I appreciated it.

A couple of weeks ago Tpop shouted out with meaning that he loved me on the way to his car. I was stunned. If he had said it to me in bed I may have punched him by mistake. Then a couple days later I sort of told him that I loved him too, but then I took it back by simply saying, "No wait I take that back." But of course now I do love him and I told him. Still I dont think Im ready for it in the bed.

But, I dont know. If he got me in the right mood it might make me smile.

I'd only say it during if I'd said it before after really reflecting on it. Love is a word I take seriously.

The first time I ever said it was after dating this girl for maybe 8 months in high school (or about 3 years post-high school worth). We were both in choir, and I had fallen for her like a blind roofer. We went on a cruise to Encinada with the choir, had a great dinner, and I took her out to the aft deck. We were both dressed up, and it was a beautiful night. "I love you."

I'd think that saying it in such a way, genuinely, means a lot more because they don't just think you're in the heat of passion.

When I was just dating I didn't like hearing or saying I love you during sex. I felt it kind of cheapened the words.

As I guy I can pretty much "love" anyone I am fucking, at least as long as I am fucking.

well, i also think that for us it depends on the situation...

if it's the rough, angry, horny, i wana fuck you right now so i dont care kinda sex ( that we had on sunday ) then thats exactly what you do.

if its kissy kissy, touchy, feely, i wana make love to you right now, i wana hold you while i tell you that I love you while we're being as intimate as two people can possibly be kinda sex, then thats what you do.

I can't stand when the phrase is used as a mood enhancer. As Charlatan's pointed out, "I love you" during sex basically translates to "I love fucking you 'cause it feels so good right now". I don't know that it would "freak me out" to hear it, but it might actually turn me off in certain situations.

But there are those rare and tender moments, usually not at a moment of climax, where your lover looks straight into your eyes and deep into your soul and professes his love, when you've already exchanged these words in the past, and that extra connection can exponentially multiply the passion at that given time.

That happened to me just last night and I have to say it was the closest and most connected I've ever felt to another person. We went nice and slow and stared into each others' eyes the entire time. It was really, really incredible.

Saying the "L" word during sex definately holds a different meaning depending on the stage of the relationship you are in.
If you just started to get intimiate, yeah, it translates to "i love fucking you"
but if it has been a long term relationship, definately not the first time and in a loving and caring embrace, I think it can be totally pulled off.

Told each other we loved each other before we started having sex...
But it kind of sounds weird during the act itself. We usually save it for afterwards. Every once and a while one of us says it by accident.

Meh, I'm a sucker for saying that early in awesome relationships, but not during sex. Unless it's one of those "FUCK i LOVE you" when she does something spectacular.

*during* would seem kind of strange to me.

Outside, I'd say it anytime - love is just a feeling of intense like, it doesnt signify anything else to me.

Hmm. My boyfriend and I say it during sex all the time and we really mean it. I love him for many reasons, not just sexual, but we both love sex very much and I think it's totally appropriate to tell each other while we're engaged in it. We also say it on the phone, on the couch, in the kitchen, sitting in the bed watching movies...we say it all the time. I don't place any significance on the time and place we say it.

So, if saying 'I love you' during sex cheapens the words, does that mean that sex is cheap???

Sex is as cheap as they can get it for most people, most their lives.

Well, I have to say I'm happy I don't feel that way. I think sex is just as significant a time to be with someone you love (and to tell them so) as any other. I'm averse to that whole 'sex cheapens love' thing and, honestly, sex has never made me feel like I loved someone that I didn't love before we took our clothes off.
