Feeling very emotional...

As of late, my emotions have been really out of whack. To give you kind of an example: right now, as I'm cruising TFP, my CD player is alternating between Ani DiFranco and Me'Shell Ndegeocello (very depressing, deep acoustic folk, in other words). For some back-info, I'm an 18 year old male. I just graduated and I'm going off to college next year. Since school got out, I've been celebrating a lot, chilling with friends, drinking, and partying. I've seen some killer concerts (Crystal Method to name one), but on top of everything I have going for me, I'm analyzing my actions and the actions of my friends very heavily. I feel down, almost depressed (and I'm already taking anti-depressants for past problems). Anyone ever go through this? Just feeling very emotional? I'm feeling kinda lost. Any advice y'all have would help. Thanks.

Nothing really *wrong* your just being a good ol teenager. Being in that position, same thing happens to me, so dont worry about it, just perk up and hang in.

Trust me, you are going through a stage. Everything in your life as you have known it for the past 18 years is changing all at once. Its just the stress of knowing its all over. Im going through the same thing. Dont look for a girlfriend as the answer though. BAD IDEA. Just wait it out. As soon as you get to college or wherever it will be fine again...

like jones said, you're in a transition stage. those are the hardest. once you get settled into a routine with school life, it'll normalize. my suggestion is to enjoy the time you have, do things you enjoy, and spend time with the people you may not be able to see as much once you begin your college life. maybe even pick up a summer gig if you can find it, it'd be a good diversion. good luck with this, and keep your mind looking foward, regardless of how you feel.

I agree with the rest of the folks here - sounds like a transition that's just kind of hit you hard. Do whatever you have to do to get through it, and if it doesn't start to go away when you start ramping up for college, it might be time to investigate changing meds with your doctor.

Buck up. Some day you'll look back at this time as the "best days of your life." Or some shit like that. I'd like to think mine have yet to come.

It's change, man. All part of growing up. Hell, I'm 40 and still dealing with life's wicked curve balls and yet reaching new plateaus.

Dude, get plenty of sleep and quit drinking while you are taking anti-depressants, you aren't doing yourself any good. This is one of the few HUGE transitions in the male adult life, and it's just going to be rough for a while.

I agree with everyone here. I'm in almost the exact same position as you are right now (with the feelings of slight depression, looking harder at friend's actions) and it just feels like something's wrong. But I'm going to take the advice of everyone here and just wait it out and see what happens.

Thanks everyone. It really is good to see that such a great community has been set up here.

Just wait until you are 29....I am way more emotional now then when I was 18. I can be happy one minute and completely down then next...
At one point today, I was so incredibly happy, and tonight, I cannot stop crying.

Anyway, don't worry...It is all natural, you will get through it.

yea. phredgreen and jones really hit hte spot. jus savor the last moments, cause change galore'll be hittin ya. i jus finihsed college frosh year and i loved it. only when i got home, i got depressed and nostalgic as shit cause a lotta frenz changed (even me), they were working, summer school, vacations, etc. felt lonely as fuck. get a job. good money and a distraction. i dont know how much my experiences pertain, but i think its just a later version, cause i tend to learn only by experience rather than other peoples (as unfortunate as this is , ive had a lot of nasty learning experiences). good luck w/urshit. ur gona love college!! cant expect things not to change. its nature, man
