How old were you when you decided to commit to someone?
some people aren't afraid of commitment, once i'm with someone, i don't bother even looking at other people.
but, alas, none of my boyfriends in the past have felt the same way. so i just wanted to know if it was whether they have doubts about the girl, doubts about themselves or whether they feel like they were just too young and didn't want to just settle with the one girl, i don't know you tell me. |
I was 17 when I met lurkette.
|
I was sixteen when I met Joe. Before that I was not good at commitment, and I'm still not really but I'm getting better.
|
It's been a slightly more recent thing for me (i.e. the last six months). Before now, commitment's been one of those words that scared the shit out of me. But with three of my best friends in serious relationships (one so serious he and his girlfriend are engaged), I've warmed up to the notion. Mostly do to them being so damned happy and I want a piece of that.

It was 2003 when Battlestar started, so like 19....
|
I was 21 and bought my now wife an expensive gift (not jewellry). I remember very clearly standing in the store knowing that it was a perfect gift but also that it was a pretty serious gesture. I made the decision, bought it, and then held onto it for a few months until her birthday.
I was right on every level. |
I started dating my wife when we were 18 but I would say it wasn't until I asked her to grow old with me that I made a commitment.
I was 22 and that was about 15 years ago. |
Which time?
|
I was 4 in 1964, and that was the year I committed myself to The Beatles. They had long hair, played guitars, wore cool boots, and made my sisters scream. What more could anyone ever desire for a committment?
|
I knew the woman I was dating was going to be my wife, and went and bought a ring. Although, I didn't give it to her for a year and a half. I guess that's what counts, right??
|
Well, "I" made the commitment to be with someone for the rest of my life when I was 19..... unfortunatly, she didn't feel the same way and left me about a year later.
|
Charlatan, that's almost our history exactly. Hubby and I got together when we were 17, married at 22 and that was 14 yrs. ago. Never broke up even for an hour from day one.
I think when you meet the "one", the commitment isin't even a question much less a decision. Or maybe that was just us.:hmm: Ali |
22 now, been with my girlfriend for nearly a year now. The way things are now, I can see us being together for the long haul.
|
Just today I committed to myself. I know that once I am a self-assured adult with enough responsibility, that is when I know that I am able to whole-heartedly commit myself to someone else.
But until then, I am committed to living righteously to achieve that momentous day. |

so it wasn't your girl that made you decide, it was because of how happy your friends were with their girls? not a bad thing either way because you got the result that you wanted so that's what matters |
My current and hopefully last :) gf , as well as my first serious relationship started 3 days before my 23rd birthday. Sure we knew each other for a while before that, but I suppose thats the official date for this thread.

I clicked 21-25...
But I'm not sure if I've actually committed. |
