How much do your parents know about your sex life?

I was inspired to start this thread after reading in a post in another thread about how the poster's girlfriend's dad took them on a tour of the sex toy factory he managed, and gave them a few to take home!

So I'm wondering how much you share with your parents about your sex life. Some starter questions:
  • How much do your parents know about your sex life?
  • Do they know when you lost your virginity?
  • DID they know when you lost your virginity?
  • Do you ever discuss sex with them?
  • Have you had sex when they were in the same house?
My mother knows quite a bit more about my sex life than my father (who still sees me as his little girl)... she told me quite a bit about it before I ever had sex, and I told her I'd had sex a few days after my first time. We've discussed such interesting topics as oral sex, anal sex, being tied up etc, and still discuss sex from time to time, but I've kind of exhausted her knowledge on the subject, and I'm not sure how she'd respond to multiple partners or some of the other kinkier things I've done so it's not as frequent a topic any more.

I've heard them going at it a lot in my time. I have had sex when they were around, I don't feel too weird about it... though I'm not sure how my dad feels about it... thinking back now I don't know if he really wanted to hear his little girl having a screaming O.

Willravel 01-18-2007 07:22 PM

1) Not much. I'm sure they know I'm not a virgin, but beyond that I'm sure they know very little.
2) NO. They would have grounded me until I graduated college if they knew what I was doing at 14.
3) Nope. As far as they were concerned, I was out with friends.
4) Rarely if ever. Despite being quite liberal, I guess I'm somewhat traditional about this one thing.
5) I don't think so. I think it's inapropriate and disrespectful, and I have no interest in doing something I think would disrespect my parents. Also, there is the noise caued by the screaming O that might require a very awkward explaination.

When I was three, I told my parents I was going to figure out the world on my own, and I've done just that since then. I don't care to get information on their sex life, and I don't care to share information on mine with them. Everything I've learned has been from friends and (mostly) experience.

I apologize in advance because this doesn't really fuel discussion, but...

No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no...

Nothing and NEVER and NO!!!

1) My mom would be pretty crushed if I wasn't into sex. I don't openly communicate with my parents about my adventures, but they always know whats going on. Sex is.. expected... and so I'm sure nothing I could possibly tell them (not that I have the intention) could make them raise an eyebrow. They'd just go, "As long as you're happy."
2) I dont think so.
3) Nah... its not a big deal either way.
4) Sure. I know if I have a problem, I can talk to my mom and she'll be totally willing to help me find a solution.
5) Heh. Ya.

I'm pretty much in the same boat - a resounding no to all the questions except the last one...

I lost my virginity in mandy's parent's house while they were still upstairs. Other than that, I don't know what my parents think about me and sex. Just before mandy and I went on holiday my dad told me:
"I don't want to hear I'm going to be a grandfather when you get back."

We don't discuss sex - EVER - so whatever they're thinking they'll keep to themselves. We're just conservative that way I guess.

snowy 01-18-2007 08:57 PM

* How much do your parents know about your sex life?

Not as much as they used to.

* Do they know when you lost your virginity?

Yep.

* DID they know when you lost your virginity?

My mother always claimed she'd be able to guess, then after I did have sex I teased her that she hadn't guessed yet. I did make her promise not to call my dad at work and tell him so. I think that was hard for her. She saw it as kind of a milestone.

* Do you ever discuss sex with them?

Sure. My dad makes the crudest jokes sometimes! It's terrible. My mom and I talk about sex every now and again. We used to talk about it a lot more, but since I'm in a long-term relationship things aren't as colorful on my end as they used to be.

* Have you had sex when they were in the same house?

I lost my virginity in my own bed, in my own home. That was how I wanted it. My mother always said I should feel comfortable enough to have sex in my own home or their home (as it is now), and I certainly did, and still do!

Haha, once my brother walked in on myself and an ex going at it. My brother screamed at the top of his lungs and then apologized profusely over and over again. My ex leaped off of me and into his pants, and I put on a robe to go tell my brother to shut the hell up. Needless to say, he'd woken up my parents, and they were not very happy that he was yelling so loudly. When they asked him why he was screaming, I said, "He walked in on us having sex." My mother laughed and was like, "Is that all?" My dad said the way he screamed he thought the house was on fire. Hahaha. We still laugh about it.

analog 01-18-2007 09:10 PM

Never discussed sex, or anything having to do with it. They know i've had it, they just have to. I've had girlfriends. Happy girlfriends. Happy girlfriends who aren't happy because they have Jesus in them, but something else entirely. I think they assume I lost my virginity to my first girlfriend, which is correct. I have had sex in the house while my parents were home, but always late at night, well after they'd gone to sleep. The room is also on the other side of the house, so there's no way they could hear anything, even if we made noise (which we didn't).

I think we have a mutual interest in not talking about it at all for any reason. Just... no. lol

- When i used to live with them back in the day, i never told them much but im pretty fucking positive they know. I'd be suprised if they didn't hear it (gf of 2 years in highschool)
- Probably knew it around junior year in highschool (Hence, when they started hearing it haha)
- Nah, they dont
- Only time I ever discussed it would be with the pops, and things that he would say. Examples are "If you ever need some wraps some, just gimme a holler and i'll help ya out" or this one time i specifically remember I went out and picked up a girl at probably 3am and brought her back to our house, and dropped her off probably around 5:30am. The next day he said "Man I hope all that was worth it" I had a good laugh from that and said "Hell yea it was"

Carno 01-18-2007 09:29 PM

I've never discussed sex with my parents and I never plan to do so. They know I'm not a virgin, but that's about it.

I just can't imagine ever talking about sex with my mom. Way too awkward. I don't think it would be as awkward with my dad, but I really can't imagine what there would be to talk about. Sometimes I talk about sex with my sisters though.

EDIT: haha, I actually just remembered that my dad probably heard me having sex one time. If he didn't hear he almost definitely knew.

shesus 01-19-2007 05:56 AM

My mom knew when I lost it...actually thought I lost it before I really did. I had to convince her that I hadn't had sex because she was ready to put me in a chastity belt.

I never talked to my mom much about it. However, recently we've moved relationship status where she's more a friend than a mom...weird. We talked a lot about things that have gone on in the past year. She doesn't know everything, but knows more than most moms do I think.

I don't think sex should be tabood. I also think parents know a lot more than they let on...

abaya 01-19-2007 06:02 AM

How much do your parents know about your sex life?
Well, they know I have one, and that there are no problems associated with that.

Do they know when you lost your virginity?
No. My mom THINKS she knows, and I'm happy to let her think that way for the rest of her life. If she knew the real story, she would have a breakdown of some kind. Dad has no idea, and doesn't care.

DID they know when you lost your virginity?
Same as above.

Do you ever discuss sex with them?
Both of them feel free to drop lewd comments and jokes on a regular basis (they've always been less than Puritan with their humor, which I don't mind at all). My mom has gone so far as to ask, "Are you kinky?" (which I do not answer!) She has also asked about my having orgasms, because she didn't have them for a long time and was wondering if I was more "liberated" in that sense. She has also inquired about the size/length of ktspktsp's penis, which I also do not answer. (Remember, she's Thai... privacy is not a known concept.) Dad and I talked once about me being on birth control, that was it. And he makes vague references to S&M being fun, which crack me up. But, I do know that if I ever had problems with my sex life, I could definitely ask either of them in all seriousness, and they would answer in all seriousness. I feel pretty open with them, just not inclined to talk when things are going fine. In fact, it would take some serious health/biological issues to cause me to bring up the topic with them!

Have you had sex when they were in the same house?
Well, they are not together, so I've only had sex when my mother has been at home. I don't stay at my dad's house. But yeah, when my mom has been home (and various other relatives)... pretty much every time ktspktsp and I have gone to visit, we've had sex there. In all the beds, at some point. ;) It was more of a problem before we were married, since then we had to "hide" it from the more conservative relatives staying with my mom... (though she didn't care, herself), sneaking in and out of bedrooms/bathrooms at odd hours. It's SOOOO much better being married, that way! :)

Kadath 01-19-2007 06:05 AM

* How much do your parents know about your sex life?

They know I've been a monogamous relationship for almost ten years.

* Do they know when you lost your virginity?

No.

* DID they know when you lost your virginity?

No, but that's an amusing question.

* Do you ever discuss sex with them?

Only before I started having it. My mother was open about sex education, discussion condoms and STDs and the like.

* Have you had sex when they were in the same house?

Yes.

I don't think sex should be taboo either, but I don't talk about sex with my friends, so I don't talk about it with my parents.

1) Not much at all.
2) I think my mom has the ballpark figure. She knocked at my door when my ex was over and I opened it wearing nothing but my boxers. She said "Oh, god. I'll come back later."
3) Pretty sure.
4) No, but my mom, my sister and I make sexual jokes pretty often. It's not a taboo subject in our house. Mom often says that if our grandma (her mom) heard some of the things we say, she'd have a heart attack.
3) I'd say about 60% of all the sex I've had was with at least one of my family members in the house. They know not to bother us when I have a girl over.

yep... that pretty much sums it up other than having sex in the same house. As far as I'm concerned I'd prefer my mom still think me a virgin despite the fact I'm 25 and married...

absorbentishe 01-19-2007 06:53 AM

I have never spoken about sex with my parents, period. They know nothing about my sex life, and I like it that way. They are old fuddie duddies, and probably couldn't handle what I do with my wife if I were to tell them. The only advice I ever received from my parents was, keep it in your pants. Yeah, that really stopped me!

maleficent 01-19-2007 06:55 AM

Nothing
Do they know when you lost your virginity?
I'm not married - ergo i am still a virgin :D
DID they know when you lost your virginity?

you're kidding right?
Have you had sex when they were in the same house?I haven't lived under their roof sincei was 17 - so nope.

* How much do your parents know about your sex life?
Exactly what would I be telling my parents?
* Do they know when you lost your virginity?
Yes.
* DID they know when you lost your virginity?
Yes.
* Do you ever discuss sex with them?
No. No one really has that 'talk' with their kids anymore. Hence 13yr old getting knocked up and 16yr olds with AIDS. And really at 25 why the hell would I want to sit down with my mother talk about the finer points of doggy style? I have the internet and porn for that.
* Have you had sex when they were in the same house?
Yes. What? I've been kind of a whore and I did live with my mother till I was 25.

mixedmedia 01-19-2007 11:38 AM

* How much do your parents know about your sex life?
It depends on which parent you're talking about. My mother knows a lot. My father, not so much.

* Do they know when you lost your virginity?
My mother does.

* DID they know when you lost your virginity?
No.

* Do you ever discuss sex with them?
With my mother, yes. Not with my father.

* Have you had sex when they were in the same house?
Not that I can remember...I don't think so.

Average_Joe 01-19-2007 11:58 AM

Well, my parents are dead, but assuming they were alive:

All 5 questions would be NO. I never had a relationship with either parent where I would be comfortable enough sharing info about sex.

I think I had sex only 1 time in my parents house, but I was married at the time, so there was no excitement factor where that was concerned.

StanT 01-19-2007 01:47 PM

Nothing, no, no, no, no

I moved out when I was 17 for a variety of reasons, including a girlfriend that they despised. I have 2 daughters, I'm sure they've figured it out by now, but it isn't something we ever discuss.

1. Not much. They know I have one, and they roughly are aware of some of the girls I have been involved with. Details? Hah!!! I laugh at the idea.
2. I don't think so, but they might suspect.
3. They may have suspected fairly soon thereafter.
4. Not on your life. My mom might be ok with it - we've had conversations that dance up to it. My dad blanches when people kiss on T.V. for Christ's sake.
5. Yes, and I'm betting they knew it. We've never overtly discussed it.

They're both quite dead so that answers question numner one. Dad was dead before I ever started (he died when I was pre-teen years) so he knew nothing. Never discussed it with my mother but she probably knew I was doing something somewhere. The only sex talk was when I was told about boys and girls and how they do such and such when they get married (I realized a few years later that marriage wasn't a requirement; however, I never did destroy my mother's belief--my sister did that.

I never had sex in the house my mother lived in, it would have seemed to creepy for me (I left home at 14 and lived with my grandma). I also behaved and never did the deed at my grandmother's home, once again my sister took care of doing that and I had the awkward moment of walking in early one morning with her and her boyfriend on the sleeper sofa wrapped in sheets and wearing goofy smiles.

  • My parents know quite a bit about my sex life. We joke about things all the time. My mother a little more than my father. My dad's a little straight laced about sex, and while he probably wouldn't be offended by some of my actions, he probably doesn't want to know either.
  • My mom does because my step-sister (at the time) shouted it out through the whole house the day after it happened (which was with a friend of hers).
  • See above.
  • Yep. All the time.
  • Yep. But not for 15 years or so. In fact, about 15 years ago, when I was dating the girl who has become my wife I came downstairs one evening to find my mother and her boyfriend laughing hysterically. It seems the guest bedroom in which my girlfriend and I were staying was directly above a chandelier and the activities above had caused the chandelier to start shaking. :)
My parents were hippies, and to some extent they still are.

Yup, and without problems. I was raised in a pretty open household, so I had no problems asking questions. I don't have many questions now, but the topic still comes up once in a while.

Have you had sex when they were in the same house?
Absolutely. :)

How much do your parents know about your sex life?
My mom pretty much as it figured out, lol. We've always been pretty open. My dad, on the other hand, probably just wants me to stay his little girl forever so I'm sure he's in a state of denial.

Do they know when you lost your virginity?
I'm sure there do.

DID they know when you lost your virginity?
My mom did for sure, she took me to the doc two days afterward when I had a horrible bladder infection and had them pump me full of depo.
Do you ever discuss sex with them?
My dad and I joke about it but mom and I had "the talk" when I was 12 or 13...
Have you had sex when they were in the same house?
No, that's one thing I wont do.

Yeah, what she said. That pretty much sums up our attitude when I was young. My mother and I have talked about sex recently. And I'm perfectly comfortable with it today. Or I'm very detached, it's hard to tell at times. My father, well, we never talked about it, but we've saw little of each other after I was 10.

1. About my sex life, my parents assume we've been having it, as evidenced by our two children.

2. My parents know nothing. They assume, correctly, that I lost my virginity on my wedding night with my wife. But it's never been discussed.

3. See #2

4. I don't discuss a lot of things with my parents. But I'd rather actually show them videotaped footage of my genitalia rather than talk to them about sex. That's the kind of relationship we have.

5. Yes, indeed. A few doors down from their bedroom, on the floor so it wouldn't be as loud.

Charlatan 01-19-2007 05:17 PM

* How much do your parents know about your sex life?
My father is dead so he doesn't know anything. My Mom knows that I've had sex at least twice as evidenced by my two kids (but I think she may be on to the fact that I have sex with my wife and have had sex with other women... she's crafty that Mom of mine).

* Do they know when you lost your virginity?
I may have mentioned it to her several years ago, but I doubt she remembers.

* DID they know when you lost your virginity?

Clueless.

* Do you ever discuss sex with them?
My Mom never gave me the "talk" but I did find a copy of the Joy of Sex in a not so inconspicuous place when I was younger.

* Have you had sex when they were in the same house?
A few times. It wasn't a big deal.

Some funny stories in here

How much do your parents know about your sex life?
Not too much. They know I have it, I'm married and I have a child, but it's not a regular topic in our conversations.

Do they know when you lost your virginity?
My mom does for sure, and I'll bet that my dad does, too. It didn't take long for hubby and I to start spending our nights together.

DID they know when you lost your virginity?
My mom knew within a couple of weeks, but I'm not sure if she told my dad or not.

Do you ever discuss sex with them?
I used to when I lived with my mom, but not anymore. I've never discussed the topic of sex with my dad, ever.

Have you had sex when they were in the same house?
We lived with my mom the first year we were married, so yeah. She knew that a scrunchie on the doorknob meant that we were "occupied" and not to bother us. I don't think we've ever had sex at my dad's house.

Gilda 01-19-2007 08:26 PM

  2. Do they know when you lost your virginity?
  3. DID they know when you lost your virginity?
  4. Do you ever discuss sex with them?
  5. Have you had sex when they were in the same house?

1. They know I'm a lesbian, but that's about it; given their attitude towards homosexuality, the BDSM stuff would probably make their heads explode.

2. Yes. It was made public when my uncle and his wife were finally caught.

3. No. I kept quiet about it until I was in my 20's and it all came out in court. If we think consensual sex instead, they knew, and did everything they could to stop me because they thought I was too young and not mature enough to handle it. They were right, but that made little difference.

4. Other than a few e-mails from my mom, I've had no contact with my parents is five years, one of the issues being my sexuality.

5. Yes, when they met the woman who would become my wife. We've also had sex in my in-laws house, but we stay in the same room when we visit them and always have; it's something that's expected. My in-laws are very free and open about sexual matters; they've even given Grace advice regarding interesting BDSM activities she can do with me. Japanese people are quite reserved in some ways, but sexually isn't one of them.

How much do your parents know about your sex life?

Very little

Do they know when you lost your virginity?

I don't think so but they can make a good guess I think

DID they know when you lost your virginity?

I think the fact that when I had my first serious boyfriend who was 5 years older than me they said they'd allow it only if I went on the pill means that they probably figure I lost it around that time, and they'd be right

Do you ever discuss sex with them?

Never with my father, tried once with my mother but she was so awkward about it I gave up

Have you had sex when they were in the same house?

No because I worry they'd walk in on me and it kind of dampens my excitement knowing they're around

My parents, or at least my Mom, would probably be very open about sex if I asked.

That said, the closest I've come to having an open discussion with one of them has been reading the books on puberty my mother gave me when was about 13.

Update.

Last night my mom, my 16 year old sister and me discussed birth control for a pretty good while. Everything from where it goes, explanations of different methods, effects, etc. Again, grandma was mentioned (she'd faint if she heard us).

We're a pretty open family when it comes down to the sex talk. I'm very surprised by the people who feel disturbed about discussing sexual topics with their parents (Supple Cow, spectre and Fob_Magi).
