Is my girl pregnant?
Okay let me just give you all the run down,
On Sept. 23rd me and my girl had protected sex, condom then broke. We went and got the morning after pill on Sept. 25th. Her period usually comes on the 1st of the month through the 7th of the month. The doctor told us the pill will probably delay the period about a week or so. My girl has been experiencing cramps since Oct. 2nd (one day after her expected period). She has no other signs of pregnancy, however I just need some sort of piece of mind. Is her period coming? I read that ovulation occurs roughly 2 weeks before menstruation begins, so I am somewhat in the clear since ovulation had finished occuring about 1 week prior to her and I having intercourse correct? That, plus the morning after pill should definitely put the chances in our favor, or so I would believe. I really don't know what to do, I just started college and she is has just become a senior in HS. I know I should wait but it's killing me! |

We've had so many threads with the same fear, I swear it could be its own forum....
First off, while the normal times for ovulation is about 2 weeks before an anticipated period, that is not cut in stone. It can occur almost any time in any given month, up to one week before the start of a period. This is called the 'luteal phase'. Because your girlfriend is young, her cycle is probably not totally regulated, which brings me to this....(an oft-repeated mother-mode of mine)... Why, for all that's sacred, are you having sex if you are going to have the least amount of panic over the remote possibility of a pregnancy? If you are not ready to be a parent, you need more than just a condom. Are you aware that ovulation is not just a one day occurence? From start to finish, it can cover 4 days. Are you aware that sperm can survive for up to three days, just waiting for that little egg to appear? *gets off mother mode. Get a pregnancy test. There are early symptoms, but none appear before any pregnancy test would confirm or deny. Get your girlfriend on birth control. Then get educated. Panic comes from not knowing how to prevent a situation that would cause that panic. And if she's not old enough to get birth control, get a lawyer.

It is a proven scientific fact that pregnancy tests can be as much as 100% more accurate than strangers on the Internet when determining whether or not a female is pregnant.
Get a pregnancy test and tell us what it says. We are not psychic. Get a pregnancy test Get a pregnancy test Get a pregnancy test Get a pregnancy test Get a pregnancy test Get a pregnancy test Got it? |

I had this image of a coven of black robed witches, in a scluded grove, under the light of the full harvest moon (oh...that's tonight, by the way) consulting a black magic 8 ball. Somehow...a little incongruous. But, it is the 21st century, after all. What the hell do I know? Yo...Don...your silence is deafening, here. Didja buy the girl a HPT yet? Didja get a (+), or the ever more popular (-)? What do her folks think of all of this? Inquiring (read nosy) minds want to know.

sounds good... but why wait a week... gonna be a looong week of worrying...
and depending on what you plan to do if she is pregnant then some of the possible options start getting limited as things progress... so time may be a concern...

Not much more to say...get the pregnancy test. They typically come with 2. Use one now and the other one a week later. Stress also delays periods. So if she's stressed about being pregnant, she probably is stressing her period away.
Oh and I say this to everyone and I know that it's hard to keep it in your pants. Everyone wants sex and whatnot BUT...if you are this freaked over the possiblity of pregnancy, don't have sex. There are other ways to have pleasure and intimacy with a person that doesn't involve the old in and out. Use your head, the one on your shoulders, and think about why you are scared. Maybe sex isn't what you should be having right now.

Well when you take the morning after pill it screws up your periods regular cycle and it takes a good while to get it back on a regular schedule. Like everyone else says...buy a test or get prepared for whatever your choice's next step is. I wouldn't worry too much, things should sort out. I remember cramping but nothing too severe. Just like a jumpstart for your period.

The first strong sign that you're pregnant is the very swollen boobs. I don't know anyone who hasn't noticed that first. Something you've never experienced before.
Take all the advice on here and go with it. It's really not worth feeling out of control and panicky.

If you both get through this with no baby take a little advice. You say you used a condom and it broke, I had this happen when I was 17 and had no morning after pill, I fell pregnant. The reason the condom broke was because he didn't put it on properly, there is a method. I googled How to put on a condom and heaps of sites came up. This was just one of the first. I dont know about the lube in the end of the condom, if you put too much it can slip off during sex, they are usually lubed enough anyway. SoYouWanna know how to put on a condom properly? Both men and women should know how to properly put a condom on. Here are the basic steps: 1. Store your condoms in a cool, dry place. 2. Put a drop or two of lubricant inside the condom. 3. If the penis is not circumcised, pull back the foreskin before rolling on the condom. 4. Place the rolled condom over the tip of the hard penis, leaving a half-inch space at the tip to collect the semen. 5. Pinch the air out of the tip of the condom, as air bubbles may cause the condom to break. 6. Unroll the condom over the penis with the other hand all the way down to the base. 7. Smooth out any air bubbles. I also have a 13 year old thanks to a failed morning after pill. (I know, I know could have learned the first time, but it take much experience to be the Master ) Anyway the morning after pill has a high failure rate. When you see your doctor talk about long term birth control for both of you and you should also get an std test each before sleeping together without condoms. Theres plenty more out there to catch than pregnancy, even from the really nice girls. |
