Boy am I dumb!

I had never really looked up pictures of circumcised vs. uncircumcised penises before, and for some reason I had always thought it was the little helmet that gets cut off during circumcision. So, basically, I'm 26 and have always thought I was uncircumcised (and thought that was normal).

I was watching sex and the city and they were talking about circumcised vs not, and I started wondering what circumcised looks like - so I looked at a picture - and it looked like my penis!

*holy shit*

I mean, it doesn't really make that much of a difference in my life since I have never even thought about it before, but boy, I just felt very stupid. All my life I had thought circumcision was entirely a different thing (and basically only happened to a minority of people). Oh well. I guess I have a modified penis. When did everyone else realize they were circumcised?

That's hilarious. I realised I was circumcised when I was circumcised at around the age of nine, due to some malfunction of my foreskin (it wouldn't pull down from the head), which caused an infection. I can't remember details, but I imagine the infection could have been cured but that due to the dodgy foreskin I'd get recurrent infections.

Sorry.

When I was in sixth grade, we had a unit called "maturation". Good old sex ed. My private school caught us before most of us had developed in any appreciable way at all, which was mortifying at the time, but very very useful in years to come.

There was this library of books about sex ed, and in one of them, there was a cartoon drawing of two boys in a shower looking at each other with "What the hell is that!?" all over their faces. The caption read, "The gentleman on the left is circumcised. The gentleman on the right is not." That was when I learned about this whole weird foreskin thing that I'd never know about before.

My son (3.5 years old) appears to be half-circumsized. The doctor says he will probably "grow into it", but it seems strange to me.

What do I mean by half? Well, we requested a circumcision, but there's still enough foreskin to cover most of the head, and we still have to roll him back to make sure he's clean and not infected. I hope it isn't the worst of both words, and that he doesn't hate me for it 15 years down the line.

I guess it is quite common though?

My son (7 months old today!) also has a half-circ. It's been a pain in the butt, too. Despite my several-times-daily efforts to retract the leftover foreskin and clean it out, the foreskin has still slowly adhered to the head of the penis twice since he was circumcised. It's fine now, since the doc fixed it AGAIN a few weeks ago.

I sure do hope he grows into it, too!

I was 23 when I learned that most of the guys in the world had foreskins. I had watched lots of porn videos, but never noticed that about 33% of guys weren't circumcised in the videos on my computer.

Then I watched this video of one being done, where they strap the baby down and rip the skin from the glans and cut it off, and I wonder why any parents would want to do that to a new baby? I don't understand why some parents (not in the US) do it to their daughters either.

Other then just tradition to get it done alot of people get it done to prevent infection. that skin being there can create a pocket where moisture and bactira can just hang out and basicly do bad things. Basicly if done right its very good to be circumcised. BUT.... if done wrong and too much is cut off it can apparently be very painful. im circumcised and glad i am. It was done long before i can remember and im glad it was. i wouldnt of ever wanted to have gone through with it if i knew what was going on.

What i think you were thinking was circumcision is castration. castration=bad

Circumsicion is very common in alot of parts of the world. and unheard of in other parts. Here in the US i think its about 50% of men have been. maybe more.

For a long while, I didn't think I was circumcised either. Then I saw a flaccid uncircumsized penis for the first time (it's rare to see flaccid ones in porn). I thought it was very strange, because he seemed to have no penis-head. Of course, it was only hidden under the foreskin, but I didn't know that at the time.

I wondered why there was a scar on my penis, but I figured it out when I learned what circumcision was.

I was with my son when he was circumsized. The pediatrician numbed him, and the kid didn't bat an eyelash when it happened.

I think having it done very young is the way to go.

I think it's safe to hijack this thread since it's months old, but first:

OP, don't feel too bad, same happened here. I always knew I was circumcised, but I had absolutely no idea what an uncircumcised male looked like until less than a week ago when I was like...okay, this is just sad. *Google*.

But, as for the hijacking section:

What do you guys think is more pleasurable during sex? While reading up on it in Wikipedia, it seems that evidently it cuts down on a LOT of the pleasure from sex.

Now, I've never had sex, but I get quite a bit of pleasure from masturbation. And I'm -missing out- on the majority?

Ya know, this makes me sorta annoyed at my parents. My kid's sure as hell aren't getting circumcised if it's going to make them have a lot more fun down the road. I'll deal with cleaning them til they're old enough, then they can - I'm sure they'll thank me down the road.

So yea. New topic: what's better, and by how much? The goldmine for this question would be someone who was circumcised in mid-adulthood (knowing both ends)...but if you're out there, I'm -so- sorry for you. Just please share.

And then one day(perhaps 10-12) I watched a show with Jewish boys getting circumscised at an older age and I went to my mom and said "Boy it sure would suck to be circumscised." And then she told me that I was when I was a baby.

Wow...didn't see that one coming.

Thinking about it from the other perspective, seems like it would be really odd to wake up one day and realise that your body wasn't completely intact and that this was the way it had been since you were born.

That said, it's kinda sad that so many uncircumscised guys in the US and a select few other countries have to explain to other boys in the locker room why they are "different" when they simply appear the way they did when they were born.

To an extent, it depends on how it is done. But just having it done in the first place will cause the glans to dry out and not be quite as sensitive as it could be. Also how much inner skin was removed and was the frenulum (the spot on the bottom where the glans meets the shaft) removed?

I still think it should be left up to the guy to change their body when they can make the decision.

In agreement here. I never could feel comfortable asking the question to one who would be in the know for fear of sounding like an idiot.

Wasn't until a year or two ago that I finally just asked my doctor and found the answer: Yes and no. The original doctor did a partial circumcison, maybe a short dorsal slit. The universe, however, to make up for the worry it caused me over the years, has made it an enjoyable feature on both sides.

hrandani, you gots to chill a bit. I would not, nor did not, circumcise my children. On the other hand I was circumcised and it does not bother me a bit. My parents thought they were doing it for the right reasons and if it has made any difference I sure can't tell, everything is working fine for me.

This thread reminds me of the kid who was born with no eyelids. What the doctors did was to use the circumcised foreskin for eyelids. Everything worked out fine, but now the poor kid is a little cock-eyed.

Circumcision is very rare in the UK, and I only ever encountered people that had been snipped due to their faith.

It was very very odd to me to find out that the Americans do it as a matter of routine in many hospitals.

I myself have done a lot of reading about this subject when I thought I might finally have a boy (wrong three girls for me!!). I wanted to educate myself on the good and the bad of circumcisions. I wanted to know if there was truth to the 'cutting off' of nerve endings and if it took away from enjoying sex as an adult. I wanted to know about all these supposed nasty diseases that my son would get if I refused to have him cut. I have to tell you after all the things I have found, I don't even know why doctors still push this issue anymore. It seems that they prefer to cut first and share information later, and in a biased way. This is of course my humble opinion. But here are some interesting facts about circumcisions that I found worth reading just so I could say I had in case I did have a boy, and have since shared with friends.
The Case Against Circumcision

I will admit that is a long read and its only one side of the scope, but they do reference facts and provide references to these facts. It can get boring if you're not into it, but I couldn't help myself in my thirst for knowledge. It was also the only link I managed to save when reading about this topic.

I have had two friends whos children were cut in the hospital before going home. One of them had to go back...TWICE (as someone else said) to have her sons penis 'repaired' because they botched his poor penis up. They had to implant skin from (dang it I know I knew this 3 weeks ago!) somewhere else and apply it to his penis to fix their previous screw up. However my other friends son is doing just fine. However this is not something I want to take a chance with when it comes to my kids. You would think in this country where it is such a highly practiced 'medical' procedure that they would do it right the first time. I'm thankful that people are asking more questions and doing what they think is right, whether they have the procedure or not, as long as they educate themselves first.

Well I think that's enough. I am hopefully not making this sound like it needs to be in the parenting forum, I am really just wanting to share my opinion on the subject and help provide some information to those in here that are trying to understand the whys and why nots like I wanted to.

I have also been with cut men and one uncut man. Neither one has complained about their situation. They both enjoy sex as much as they can get away with. However, I have to admit, an uncut man has his advantages. Besides a condom like cover on his penis that does...somewhat...not completely...seem to help in birth control (as he calls it), the foreskin provides its own kinda 'fun' when manually masturbating and giving oral sex, in my opinion. Having it there was like having a new little toy to play with in which he seemed to enjoy. It also made him extra sensitive on the head of his penis because its shielded from all the rubbing and chafing an uncut penis deals with from the moment that foreskin is taking away, this can be a good and bad thing but that depends on what you are doing and how much he likes being 'tortured' while playing with it being so sensitive. He prefered to keep it hidden during oral, and only exposed his head while having intercourse or he gets a bit overcome with the sensitivity.

rofgilead, I find it humorous that you didn't realize you were circumcised , not in a mean way or like I'm laughing at you, but more like I'm laughing with you. Reminds me of when I started having wet dreams in college (because I stopped masturbating) I didn't know what the hell was going on. I had always thought there was only a single wet dream that occurred once semen production began. I assumed it was normal, but was afraid to ask anybody. Also when I started getting blue balls from getting "friendly" with my girlfriend (now wife) and thought I had a hernia or kidney infection, etc, and spent lots of time in and out of my doctor's office. If my scrotum actually turned blue I would have figured it out a lot sooner.

Back on the circumcision topic, my 5 month old son was circumcised. I wasn't for it, but my wife was, and I wasn't against it enough to battle with her anymore on the subject. He has the same issue with the remaining foreskin rolling back over the head of his penis, but the doctor said it wasn't a problem.

I did not get my first son circumcized at birth. I did my research and discovered that there really wasn't much point in it as long as I actually washed my child regularly. My son, clearly the exception to the rule, developed a problem, his foreskin adhered to his penis. Everytime I went to wash it it would stick. He screamed and cried, I felt like a horrible person. He was hurting very badly every day because I tried to keep him from hurting needlessly at birth. At 3 years old he had to have a circumcision. this was VERY bad, because he remembers it. He tells me every time we pass the hospital, "thats where they cut your nakey off."

side note, he invented the word nakey, not me, I tend to believe in using the proper name for body parts, lessen the stigma attached to sex somewhat, but he cannot understand penis, and does understand nakey, I still call it a penis, but thems the breaks.

back on topic. My second son was circumcized at birth. I NEVER want to try to deal with what I and my son went through before he had him "fixed"

Remember: my son's condition is VERY rare. I really believe for the majority of men, its better not to be cut. I've never been with an uncut man before, so I know nothing of the pleasure factor involved, but I do know that by and large medical research has shown no significant health benifit and theres no reason to hurt babies for very little medical benifit.
