Tilted Debate League

How it works:

Two team captains are chosen, each captain will choose two members of tilted forum project as fellow members of the team. Invitations for the team will take place through PM. Team members must be agreed upon by both captains before an invitation is sent.

The Rules:

Debate topics are chosen by Team Captains and League moderator. Fairness will be the guiding factor in topic choice.

All members will use integrity and respect in replys and topic debate. Only fact, and universally perceived truth will be used when addressing, or rebuttal of information used to set a point unless the post is clearly stated as opinion. Moderator will have final say as to validity of sources.

Outside input, from members not invited for the debate will be ignored, and the post deleted unless a full concensus is reached by all members and an invitation is sent to the individual to join the debate. After four rounds of comment (starting with the captain, and ending with the same) the moderator will declare an open thread, which will allow further discussion.

Degradation of the debate will result in no more than three warnings of topic violation before thread is closed by moderator.

Again, respect and useful debate are the guiding forces in this experiment


Captains will be chosen at random from the pool of members interested (please indicate if you are willing)
Interested Parties please indicate so here, ie: captain /participant, once the teams are in place.....you will choose your prefered Moderator. Who will work with the captains to choose a debate topic.

Question: What do you mean by "four rounds of comment"? Does each of the six debaters speak four times? Does each team create two amalgamated posts?

And yes, I am interested in being either a captain or a participant. :cool:

The Idea is a Total of four comments from each team, Starting and ending with the team captain posting (though this is up to the team itself). The opening of the thread to all comments does not signify the death of the thread, rather, if all goes well.....the beginning of it.

I like this idea too - I'd be interested in taking part in either capacity too.

I am too backed up at work for this round, but I would like to be a participant in the next.

the format seems interesting...and i could be game. but it would probably depend on the topic...

I am interested in being a participant, in whatever capacity required. This sounds very interesting.

Tec, I have gotten through some of my major deadlines and should have the rest done by this weekend. I can participate sooner than I thought.

We have two Captains and two participants, as of now. Why not give it a go with just the four of us?

I can't speak for anyone else, but since you have shown an interest, I would cast my vote for you as the preferred moderator.

This is a great idea! I'll follow along closely, and after work slows down (they're sending me to Europe) I'd like to participate. Good on ya - I'm looking forward to this.

That was the fun of debate in college... having to debate the complete opposite of what your core belief was... Now THAT makes for a fun debate...

I was in the debate club at HS, I used to win mainly through cheap grandstanding though!

Captains are choosing a topic now.....at which point a new thread will be placed.....keep an eye open

Tecoyah, I'm still not quite clear on how you envision the roll of the participants under each Captain. Do we help with research, offer debate points and such, and then the Captain chooses his arguments?

I'm a newbie to the whole debate protocol. :)

there will be discussion within your team....either thru PM or chat....hell, use Yahoo if you want. The Idea is to actually BE a team in this....and create a serious debate using the strengths of team members. How you do this is up to you as a team.....and the results will speak for themselves. Personally, were I doing this as a captain, I would open the debate myself....have each member work off the opening statement, and then work closely to create a close that blew the other side to pieces....


...but thats just me...heh

I'd be willing to help. I'm pretty moderate and all. I wouldn't Captain, though.
