This was a very compelling story to me, and for once, I actually like Dr. Condaleeza Rice. I mean, it looks like she's actually doing something worthwhile.

I saw that yesterday. The only I could think about it was...

"That'll help to get the sanctions lifted" :rolleyes:

This place is ripe for another regime change.

Can you imagine? Roughing up the entourage of those you seek assistance from.

Old habits are hard to break, it seems.

I am opposed to all forms of thuggery, foreign or domestic. The Sudanese government should issue an apology at the very least. At most, they should make an attempt at providing a good environment for their people because right now, it is chaos with the government sitting atop it while reaping the rewards of corruption.

If regime change is to take place, I suggest that it is done with the mutual consent of the majority of the nations of the world and it is done with diplomacy and pressure first, military last. The good thing about economic sanctions against this country is that the people have nohting, so less than nothing would not be a sea change in their condition, which is entirely deplorable.

The plight of many African nations is a serious issue that cannot be seen through the lens of partisanship from within our borders.

From the little I know about here it seems to me that Rice is a very strong woman. Obvioiusly she had to play to the administration in order to get where she is. Now that her possition is secure I think she will beggin pursuing her own agendas.

In related news. It seems that Suddan really couldn't care less if those sanctions are lifted or not because they have a new big friend. China has very strong ties with Suddan and many other rogue govenments in Africa. It seems that they are trying to open up a new market for themselves there. They are buying up all the oil, devoloping resorts and other industiries on the continent.

Human rights groups and many western govenments are very worried about China's recent activity in Africa. If China is willing to deal with any govenment in order to get what they wan't then the process of reform will never happen on the continent.
