Is the movie "The Fog of War" any good?
I saw some of this on the movie channel last night and it looked fascinating. However, I forced myself to stop watching, with a view to catching the whole thing later; I can't abide watching a movie or documentary half way through...

Two thumbs up! It's very informative and told from the perspective of someone who went through it all. Not just some schmuck spouting hyperbole.

Mephisto, I really enjoyed it for several different reasons. I was born in the Vietnam era and always felt I should know more about the escalation and why we couldn't stop it. I could give you basic facts on the war - but obviously they weren't teaching us much about it in public schools late 70's, early 80's. This was focused on a lot of the day to day dealings, alliances, and broken agreements that put us there.
I was a bit worried that it would become an infomercial for Robert McNamara to defend himself and the Johnson administration and put another spin on the justification for war. Love him or hate him, I was impressed with McNaMara's candor and what I thought was a bit of honest soul searching that could not have been easy for him. My liberal friends call it Sympathy for the Devil, I thought it was the most impressive documentary I have seen in a long time. |
Links to reviews of the film supplied by me, and link to roachboy's recent comments about the film and about McNamara.

Yes definitley see this documentary, it is great, McNamara justifies his actions in a very honest way and it's very informative about why certain decisions were made.

Thanks guys.
Sorry if this is a repeat thread. Mr Mephisto |
