Bathroom Humor - Politicians can be funny sometimes

I thought this might lighten the mood a bit around here.

Background: A Senator in Florida proposes a $0.02 per roll tax on toilet paper.

That's all fine and dandy, he can propose whatever he wants. The real fun happens when all of the other politicians get their little soundbites out about this proposed tax.

Quote:
Senate President Tom Lee, R-Brandon, said he didn't think it would get too far, but didn't rule it out.
"We'll be getting to the bottom of it real soon," Lee said.
Quote:
"We're not wild about tax increases," said House Speaker Allan Bense, R-Panama City. "But we'll certainly let it go through the system."
Quote:
It would also need approval from Gov. Jeb Bush. He said that if toilet paper is taxed, people might use less of it.
"That's not necessarily a good thing," noted the governor.
and, from the story itself:
Quote:
In a Republican-dominated Legislature that doesn't like new taxes, the idea is likely to pretty quickly end up in the tank.
Quote:
And what about consumers? Wouldn't they be squeezed by a tax on the Charmin?
No real opinion here, I just got a kick out of the article and thought I would pass it on. You know this is gonna end up on the late night monologues......

Edit: The fun continues

Quote:
House Speaker Allan Bensen says he hasn't seen the bill yet, but that "it sounds kind of crappy." On a more serious note, he says the House isn't too big on tax increases.

Senate leader Tom Lee says he doesn't think the proposal will go very far. He also couldn't resist getting a couple of puns in.

"Senate staffers are sniffing it out and will be getting to the bottom of it real soon," he said.
Quote:
Sponsor Sen. Al Lawson, D-Tallahassee, seems flushed with excitement over his new bill, but it's a given that tax-shy lawmakers won't take this one sitting down.

Wow, this guy is really getting into a complex tissue, err, issue.

Will the tax apply to all rolls? What about the double ply sheets? Same tax rate? Or how 'bout the Quilted Northern fluffy double rolls? It not fair that the single ply rolls have to pay the same amount as the double ply, fluffy rolls. It's discriminating. It's pitting the haves vs. the have nots.

Also, think about the industrial size fat cat rolls purchased by businesses. Are we going to allow them to only pay 2 cents while they consume the most paper? I bet they have some lobbying group that's gonna get them to pay even less. Meanwhile, their greedy practices are going to push the small, ply poor rolls out of a job.

I don't like the sound of this one bit....

As Ronald Reagan said, "Politicians and diapers need to be changed frequently, and for the same reason."

I also have the urge to post the de Niro "Terrorist Alert" about now.

This ass-enine subject is really chapping my ass. Perhaps this will really drop the bomb of awarness to those who flush so freely now, or perhaps we will see this get clogged before passing out of the system (sorrry, repeat from above). I'm hoping to see the anti-defication league jumping on this. One thing is certian, this tax will have us pushing a little hearder every time we think about it. Does nature's call really sound like, "Eh, charge them a little more."?

This'll probably just float away in the perverbial sewer of yesterday.
