The most obvious problem with the Iraqi elections..
...is the women. You're seeing pictures of voters all over the news now, but in everyone it's women with burqas on. How in the world do the election officials verify their identity. Are they allowed to peek?
|
Ya it's that, and that the only people running are the ones that we already appointed, or that the country is in pure chaos. I dont see how this can possibly have a positive outcome.
|
The women?? I'm sure they have a I.D. card that they have to show and their is some system to determine who they are. But women are the problem with the elections?? With so many other problems like the U.S. forces in large numbers occupying Iraq (and I don't mean running it) and the insurgents killing the troops and their own citizens; I would think those would be the problems dealing with the Iraqi elections and not women!!

How about: Democracy doesnt always work... especially when it's forced.

i'm beginning to come to the joyous conclusion that there's nothing i can say that won't piss off lefties.

It's ironic that the word left in most languages is related to the word for evil.

Thinktank pretty well sumed it up. Democracy forced is democracy faked (that's a Willravel original quote). I was a republican going into this mess. I had to change my party because the republicans morphed into authoritarians. I took the opposite route to the Libertarian party. Libertarian isn't left, btw. It's more like up or down.
Imagine you live in a society that basically has you looking only at womens eyes. Eventually, you learn to tell women apart by their eyes. I figure that a society that has covered women for thousanda of years has probably developed a better recognition of eyes. So to address your original question: no they are not allowed to peak, but I doubt they'd need to peek. |
The eyes have it. phhttt.

"just somewhat agreeing with drakers that there are a lot more problems going on out there than voter fraud at the election"
all of which have been done to death here. When it came to the pictures, one of my friends pointed the pointed out the ID thing and i thought "great question , i wonder why this hadn't been brought up before, as obvious as it seems now that you've pointed it out." Perhaps overlooked because of some of the other more obvious problems, but.... "the evolution of eye recognition?" |
Guys, please stop flaming and trolling. Matthew330 had a good question and I'm curious to know what people think about the issue at hand.
|
It's not evolution. Jeez. fishin, take your own advise. "The eyes have it. phhttt." is a wonderful example of how to be disrespectful and not add anything to the conversation. Hvae you noticed, fshin, that you haven't in your three posts tried to answer matthew's question? You're seem ready to heckle, and hesetant to get involved.
Middle Eastern people are easily able to tell one woman from another there. As someone who lived in the middle east for a little over 3 months, I saw it first hand. I even started to learn it myself. This is not some far fetched theory of eye recognition evolution. It is sociological adaptation at most. People do have much different eyes. We are born with hardware in our brain used to recognise facial features very well, and we are able to associate those features with people. Eyes are one of the main features we recognise. Assuming the officials are Iraqi, this shouldn't be a problem. |
It's a really big catch 22... even if they had ID cards, who's to say someone couldnt just steal or fake 1,000 IDs and then keep walking to the back of the line and voting again with another? The election will be rigged. I'm not calling conspiracy or anything, but the setup of this vote just isnt clean enough for the results to be accurate. There are too many groups out there with too many agendas. Many people out there, as is obvious by the fact that more and more of our soldiers keep coming home in bags, dont want this election and they dont want us there, and they will do whatever is necesary to try to stop it. I just feel that it's obviously going to be a sham.
