Prince Charles makes classic comment
Has anyone heard about the Prince's rant? In relation to an internal scandal, he cracked back on modern culture and education for imbuing people with a sense of entitlement to great things and fame.
"People think they can all be pop stars, high court judges, brilliant TV personalities or infinitely more competent heads of state, without ever putting in the necessary work or having natural ability" here is a link to one article about it: http://www.heraldsun.news.com.au/com...55E663,00.html In general I agree with his sentiment...but talk about the pot calling the kettle. I wonder if he realizes how ridiculous a statement like this sounds from someone who was BORN into his position. Just classic... edit: more fitting title Last edited by unbzete; 11-18-2004 at 07:39 AM.. |

Not a very good title, akin to "Bush is ridiculous" or "Kerry is ridiculous".
Anything better we could change it to?

I was ready to be horrified and offended by all of the headlines about him saying people shouldn't rise above their station, but the quote--except the last line--is not all that inarguably offensive:
"What is wrong with everyone nowadays? Why do they all seem to think they are qualified to do things far beyond their technical capabilities? "This is to do with the learning culture in schools as a consequence of a child-centred system that admits no failure. "People think they can all be pop stars, high court judges, brilliant TV personalities or infinitely more competent heads of state, without ever putting in the necessary work or having natural ability. "This is the result of social utopianism which believes humanity can be genetically and socially engineered to contradict the lessons of history." I don't see him critical of the social system that gave him all those castles, millions, and employees he can be superior to as a result of birth. |

If he means that in the sense that people simply think they are entitled to things they have not earned by dint of effort, then I agree. If he means it in the sense that people should not try as they are not born to it, then he can engage in something that for a man is supposed to be anatomically impossible for a man.

I'm considering starting a thread called "Guy who works at convenience store makes classic comment" because what he thinks is of about as much value to me as what Prince Charles thinks.

I do honestly believe that Charles is a genuinely earnest and well meaning person, he probably isnt the brightest guy - but on the whole he seems a better human being than the rest of his family. Compare Charles' comments to the fairly regular racially insensitive rants of his father (although Philip can be funny too sometimes, I remember him asking a Scottish driving instructor how he was able to keep his pupils sober enough to pass their test!!)

What's funny is that Prince Charles is none of these things. Go back to cutting ribbons at new shopping malls and chumming it up with pop stars prince Chas. |

Way off topic but does it not look like Robbie Williams got something shoved up his butt in that picure?
I have no comment on, well, his comment... Mainly because I really don't care much for people's opinions on issues such as this - even if they are Prince Charles' - and even though he is correct... meh.

This is an example of a provocative and argumentative Government minister taking quotations out of context and attacking Charles unfairly.
I'm no monarchist, but the accusations being thrown at him (in this circumstance) are unfounded. He has taken the unusual step of actually responding to some of the press reports in a speech yesterday. Mr Mephisto |
