Warning! Tilted Sexuality may be dangerous for your health

There's a new film coming out that's a biography of Alfred Kinsey, the sexuality researcher. However, some people are protesting the film...

http://www.cnn.com/2004/SHOWBIZ/Movi....ap/index.html

I find it amazing that people have this attitude about investigating sexuality in this day and age.

Quote:
"A film could have been produced that would have shown that side of Kinsey but also shown the hell that he released," Peters added. "That's part of Kinsey's legacy -- AIDS, abortion, the high divorce rate, pornography -- and there's not anything in the film to connect him with it."
Does Tilted Sexuality help contribute to AIDS, divorce and the "homosexual agenda"? Quite possibly!

what's so amazing? no one is against investigating sexuality at all. the protesters do not think the film accurately portrays kinsey's career, glossing over some of the damage they feel he took part of. you may disagree with their opinion of kinsey... but their attitude seems healthy.

classic line lebell.

Their attitude doesn't seem very healthy to me, nor very rational. Do you honestly believe that providing information about sexuality caused any of the "problems" cited? (I put that in quotes because I don't see homosexuality as a problem).

If you read the article, some people are very clearly against investigating sexuality...
Quote:
Focus on the Family and its allies blame Kinsey for a host of ills -- including clearing a path for candid, comprehensive sex education programs espoused by organizations like the Sexuality Information and Education Council of the United States.
Quote:
The Generation Life group said Kinsey was partly responsible for "devastating consequences of sexually transmitted diseases, pornography and abortion". (from a BBC article on the same subject)
They're blaming these ills on his research, not on him going out and personally forcing people to have abortions, watch pornography, or infecting people with STDs.

sex research is still under attack in America. Federal grants have been reduced severely (and no the private sector won't pick this research up). One of the professors at my school is doing some sex research and has gotten death threats from fundamentalists. It's gotten crazy.

that quote is misleading. first, the quote is about sex education and it was used to make a case about sex investigation. two very separate things with different social implications. true, focus on the family is against some sex education programs... but not because they prefer people be uneducated about sex. they contend that the age group for these programs is much too young and sometimes object to the state being the institution in which kids learn about sex. kinsey advocated kids being taught about sex more in-depth and at a younger age than many parents were comfortable with. i think this is honest grounds for a sincere debate.

They're certainly exaggerating it, but you can't deny there has been some influence from the man on America's sexuality, namely making it more open, for better or worse.
