If Bush or Kerry both say there will be no draft

Why would a person that wants to become commander-in-chief want to limit his resources during a time of war? Selective service is one of the tools that could be utilized in a time of strife to backfill our military and protect our country.
I personally cannot believe that Bush has stated that he would not draft if necessary. It may be a vote getter but it is not a prudent thing to say. |

As stated before, I personally believe anyone stating there will be no draft is a flat out liar. Noone can predict how Iraq is going to turn. I think it'll get worse and volunteer recruiting will suffer. If it does get worse and recruitment doesn't fill the billets we have no choice but to start a draft. You can only rotate and keep the same troops in combat so long before they get burnt out and fed up. |
Repealing Selective Service would be truely stupid.
Both Bush and Kerry are saying that there won't be a draft for Iraq, and I don't believe it will get to the point where it needs it (and if it does somebody screwed up royally and are willing to sacrifice their party's presidential chances for a decade in order to get us out of the mess). The draft is there for times of national emergancy. For example, a major war against China or Russia, or an invasion of the US by somebody. Any other use won't pass. |
