voting...well i am getting a bit concerned about the fact that i registered in august by mail in philadelphia and still have not recieved my card...i understnad that the challenge process undertaken by the nader campaign has jammed up the processing of registrations, but am not sure of this. either way, it is not good--philadelphia has seen a large-scale voter registration campaign and it makes me wonder whether those who are trying to register are being processed.

not sure what if anything there is to be done about this.

Roachboy - I'm not from Pennsylvania, and I don't know the election system there. But I'd suggest giving a quick call to one of a variety of places. Call your secretary of state's office, or the Democrat/Republican office nearest you and ask what to do if you don't get the ballot. I'm sure they will tell you the rules in PA, whether you can still vote even after requesting an absentee ballot, how to make sure you still get to vote, etc.

As for me, I'm in Iowa and yes, I voted early (absentee). Early voting is a truly wonderful thing.

Well I didnt mean the absentee voting.....but thats cool that you can do that too!!!

I dont qualify for absentee....Im SO glad our state gives us the option of going somewhere besides our precinct to vote....the lines at our place are always hours long on election day.

roachboy: I registered(well, changed my registration, I moved to a different county earlier this year) by mail in September and received my card weeks ago. I am afraid you probably won't get to vote in this election; if your registration was lost, it's too late to resubmit. But guy44's suggestion is a good one. Call the local DNC office and explain your problem. They will give you all the help they can, as I suspect you've registered democrat.

Well I went....took me 2 1/2 hours.....I was voter number 965 for today......it was worth the wait...specially being in a climate controlled courthouse...no telling what the weather will be like next week.

Nah, I never bought into the Democratic screed of "Vote early, vote often." I'll vote on election day, and only vote once.

There's no problem with voting on election day. An early vote simply ensures that you do, in fact, vote. Emergencies can, well, emerge, or lines can be really long or whatnot. It is just a safety net for the voter.

As for accusing Dems of suggesting people vote often, well, (outside of Chicago, where I'm from) that is an uncalled for, untrue, and insidious statement.

Historically, Democrats were the pioneers of voting fraud. Daley, Tammany Hall, Huey Long, et cetera. It's odd that you mention Chicago, since it was Democratic Mayor Richard J. Daley's organization who apparently coined the phrase "Vote early, vote often."

Democrats may be the "pioneers" of voting fraud (they do have a bit more total history than the other party...who knows, maybe the whigs or know-nothings invented voter fraud) but the Republicans haven't rested on their laurels. One could say that they have been very quick studies.

my precinct is in the lobby of my building we're not setup yet.. .unless there's a different method that I don't know about... nevertheless I have to walk thru the voting area in order to get to the door... no excuse not to vote.

I'm a Louisiana native. Those incidents occured when the south was functionally a one-party territory. There was no significant Republican presence in this state until the late 70's and that wasn't due to voting fraud. You're talking about a completely serperate Democratic faction. Of course, all the good old boys have turned Republican these days.

You're right about the Republicans not having a significant presence there until the 1970's. People still hadn't forgiven Lincoln for the Emancipation Proclamation.

Actually, most of them are dead. One live one is Robert Byrd, who is still alive, still a former KKK recruiter, still fond of using the "N-word", and still a Democrat....

I wish that they were all gone. You don't live here but let me assure you that racism is still alive and well in the deep south and that it frequently votes Republican. Have we forgotten David Duke so soon?

Crazy

Not voting early. I thought about it but then decided to wait until election day so I can have the real experience. Plus I want to see how it goes, turnout, who's in line, etc. I'd also like to feed BS to exit pollers too, help skew the predictions like the last time.

Yeah, voting Republican never made much sense to me either.

So much for the party of Lincoln, huh?

Hmmm...David Duke, Republican, balanced against Robert Byrd, Democrat...

If they ran against each other, you'd better hope that there was a "none of the above" choice on the ballot....

Let's not leave out James Hart proud Republican congrssional candidate from Tennesee.

And before that we had Trent, Strom and your own Gov. Allen, who procleimed a "confederate history month (not necessarily racist, but insensitive and stupid at least...you have to be careful invoking the past in the south)."

Not all racists are Republicans and not all Republicans are racists, but let's not pretend that it's a Democrat only trait. We all know who controls the south now.

Imagine the nerve of wanting to remember the history of the Confederacy in the place that the capital of the Confederacy used to be, and that was practically burned to the ground as a direct result of the war. How DARE those Dresdeners or the people of Hiroshima or Nagasaki remember the Second World War and what happened there, too!!! After all, they were on the wrong side in the war, too!!! I've heard Allen speak live, and I've shaken his hand. He sounded much more like a Libertarian or a "Jeffersonian Democrat" than a Republican in the vein of Dubya. I'd vote for him again in a heartbeat.

We could go on and on bringing up political warts (must....not.....say....it....McKinney...oops!!!) but let's let it rest. Neither side can choose who belongs to the party (if Satan was real, was eligible to vote, and wanted to register as a Democrat or Republican, he could).

This is a bit of a stretch, but you made the comparison....would Japan have "Imperial Japan heritage month?" Would Germany celebrate "Nazi heritage month?" I don't think so.

I would like nothing better. So can we now stop pretending that racism is a Democrat only trait?

Nothing. Rarely do threads stay on topic in Tilted Politics

I don't think we have the option to vote early in New York. Even if we did, I would wait till next week. It's just something about voting along with the rest of the country that I like.
