Hmmmm weird thought about a massive October surprise

So I was flipping through and stopped on Fox News. First I heard them say something about people in Bush's administration starting to doubt the war.... didn't really pay attention can't nor won't comment because I didn't pay attention to what was said. I brought it up because it did catch my attention and was the reason I stopped but I had a few things to do and missed what was said.

What I did pay attention to was when they said that a massive new offensive is about to happen.

Gave me 2 questions..... maybe someone can answer.

1) Why would anyone say we are coming and attacking HERE. To me that kind of allows the enemy to prepare.... but could be mis-information, still I can't see Patton or MacARthur saying that.

2) And this maybe my paranoia and brain thinking too much (because it does)......

If we attacked with this massive offense and in the process caught OBL wouldn't that pretty much guarantee a Bush win by a landslide?

Think about it. 10 days before the election we go on a massive offensive and lo and behold as the troops start overcoming the enemy, we catch OBL.

Now that does 2 things ...

1) Bush catches OBL and looks like a great leader

2) It proves Bush right all along that Saddam and OBL were truly in cahoots.

How could anyone defeat that.... especially DAYS before the election?

Sure 2 years from now a month from now it can come out that it was a plant, but days before the election noone would have time to say anything and the military over there (except for approved press) would probably be off limits to the press.

I have said all along that if we catch bin Ladin days or weeks before the election, I would likely switch and vote for Kerry. I believe it would be an idication that we could have caught him all along but waited until the most politically expediant moment. Frankly, I am not so worried about it any longer. I think we are largely past the best point of political timing for it to work.

Of course, I could be wrong too.

The only rumor I'm hearing is that instead of spending the weekend in Crawford, TX as his schedule shows, Bush is actually going to pay a surprise visit to the troops in Iraq.

Also, each time I think nothing else Rove could do would shock me, I am shocked once more.

Too perfect if your rumor is true Spar and my delusion is right.

OBL is in Pakistan, so unless he has already been caught in Afganistan, we won't be the ones getting him.

But in the idea of an October surprise, I'm thinking something more practical and realistic i.e. Al Zarqawi, it would deal a big blow to Kerry's rhetoric on the war in Iraq.

I don't know... I'm worried, though. I think the polls are a little too close right now for Rove. Maybe he'll start push polling about Kerry having an illegitimate black child, like he did with McCain. ;)

SirSeymour 10-22-2004 02:27 PM

Polls are largely misleading and I doubt very seriously Rove is looking at the same ones you and I see. He is looking at polls from certain states, not national polls. He could care less about the popular vote, he is aiming for the Electoral vote. He is watching the polls out of Ohio, PA, FL, MN, WI, NM and a couple of other places.

Though probably posted before, information like this is always good. Here's a neat site to see the current predicted winnners by state, according to state polls:

IMO - Anyone that would actually change their vote just because we finally catch (or don't catch) OBL is truely a moron. I hope that people are not that shallow and one-sighted. There are alot of reasons to vote for a person. Voting on a single goal oriented issue seems to really narrow the field. I really doubt that there is a candidate with all the same values as there are voters.

Agreed. While my political beliefs rarely align with yours, I definitely agree with this--anyone voting for someone based on one issue needs to rethink their reasons for voting at all. There is a lot more to it than that.

It would be what the larger implications of the situation that would cause me to consider changing my vote. If we suddenly turn up with bin Laden just in time for the November vote, that is just a bit too hencky for me. I have enough issues with a lot of what Bush has done but currently still consider him a better choice than Kerry. However, if we capture bin Laden now, with the polls so close, it indicates a much larger issue with Bush than I currently see. Trust me, I did not say that lightly and have thought about it since back in February.

That is very true but, there are a lot of people out there that do. And it perhaps would be enough to sway the vote. Even if it was the Iraqi warlord Al Zarqawi, that may be enough to sway the vote. There is a reason we are making sure EVERYONE knows we are launching this massive offensive, which I think is suicidal, I'm going to kill you in 20 minutes so don't get a gun or anything to stop me..... .

I also agree that the basic fact people even consider this could happen says something about the trust they have in Bush. What's sad is people know it but those voting for Bush for some reason trust him more....lol which says a Hell of a lot about either Kerry or what the GOP propaganda machine has done to sway people's opinion on Kerry.
