The Politics of Football

http://snopes.com/sports/football/election.asp

The outcome of the last Washington Redskins game before the election has predicted the outome of the election every time since 1936.

If the Redskins win, the incumbant wins. If they lose, the opposition wins.

I guess I have to put my football hatreds aside and become a Redskins fan for a day :p

I never thought I'd say this....

Go Skins.

I wonder how this will effect the TFP Football Pools, will people who vote for Kerry put down Green Bay, and will Bush supporters put down Washington, makes me wonder.

Averett 10-31-2004 02:20 PM

Well, Green Bay won, 28-14. Lets see what happens on Tuesday...

I'm not one for omens, but every time the Red Sox have won a World Series in the year of a Presidential Election, the incumbent has been defeated.

Don't believe me? Check out this list:

Year Red Sox won World Series
1912

President
William H Taft

Was the President Re-elected?
No

I think the figures speak for themselves...

Averett 11-01-2004 08:37 AM

Hee... awesome

Oooh, one even better, evidently from Slate but I found it on Slashdot:
Quote:

Consider this: Every time the Boston Red Sox win the World Series in a presidential election year, Woodrow Wilson gets elected president. You can look it up: 1912 and 1916. Now the Sox have done it again. What's it mean? You read it here first: Woodrow Wilson in a landslide!
Also from Slashdot:

From all us non-american slashdotters, we let out a collective 'Aha!' after finally understanding how you actually decide who will be president.
