I'm not too sure about that daswig. Do you have evidence, such as a link, that shows it is possible to buy nuclear weapons?

Well, since you would have to get start with a liscence to own nuclear material, that should nix owning one right there, since I doubt they would issue one because you "want it".

Anyway, to the point, the candidate's stances on gun control are not the only issue to me, but are still very important.

Mao said it best, power comes from the barrel of a gun and Kerry has consistently voted to take our power away from us as a senator.

I don't see him doing differently as a president.

Kerry's for the Brady Bill, which requires a 3-day waiting period for a background check before getting a firearm. Proponents argue "Why are they in such a hurry to get a gun?" But when you think about it, you don't have to wait 3 days to buy a car, and you can kill lots of people really quick in one of those. It's really just another way to get less people to like guns, if it's inconvenient to buy one.

whocares, you can't just go out and BUY a nuke, but private corporations do indeed own them. They build them and refurbish them for the Government. There are also several nuclear power plants out there that are in private (deregulated power company) hands. For examples of this kind of thing, look at: http://www.brook.edu/fp/projects/nucwcost/sites.htm

Nuclear materials aren't that hard to come by in trace amounts, the main thing is expense. IIRC, you can buy tritium on the open market, and lots of people own trace amounts of it (for example, in watches and weapons sights) . For any kind of volume, there are serious regulations to go through, but it certainly can be done if you've got the resources for it.

Damn. And I had ruled out other shaky things in an attempt to stay factually correct.

But thanks for the great site.

Check out these pictures and tell me that Kerry is pro-gun:

Unfortunately, I am a one-issue voter and always will be until we get two presidential candidates who support the 2nd Amendment as it is written. As others have said, the 2nd Amendment guarantees the rest.

WRT the picture of Sarah Brady with John Kerry:

There's a funny observation which is in very bad taste.

The observation goes: James Brady is living proof that a Democrat is just a Republican with a hole in his head.

Kerry considers a M-91 Mosin Nagant bolt-action rifle to be an "assault rifle". If you really think Kerry doesn't support gun control, you haven't been paying attention.
K, thanks. I was basing my beliefs about Kerry on JohnKerry.com and the few paragraphs in there about his stance on gun control, and well... I was apparently less-than-totally informed by it, I suppose. So thanks for filling me in a little.

I really should look at voting records more often.

Made a change or two to make it more applicable to me, but either way, this is my experience as well. There is PLENTY of evidence showing that, not only do strict gun laws not reduce crime, but lenient gun laws deter crime as well. There are posts all over the forum pointing this out so I won't bother to post it here. Some related facts are posted above.

Unfortunately, I think what you describe is more common than not. Kerry says what he thinks people want to hear. Right or wrong (and there are a lot of both with Bush) , you generally know where Bush stands on things. With Kerry, you've got to dig much, much deeper, and even then you can't be sure what he said or did wasn't the result of some unknown pressure at the time. For example, during the primaries, his "I'm the anti-war candidate" statement, despite having voted for the IWR, was a direct result of Dean's strength in that area. As soon as Dean was knocked out, he reverted back to a hawk.
