Seymour Hersh with more info on Gitmo and our newest Rambo force
pts 1 and 2:
http://books.guardian.co.uk/extracts...303431,00.html http://books.guardian.co.uk/extracts...303429,00.html I think Rice has taken issue with a few of his claims, but it's an interesting read nonetheless. A CIA analyst visits the base in Cuba, only to conclude that "if we captured some people who weren't terrorists when we got them, they are now". This analyst prepared a report in 2002 detailing vairous abuses in the camp. Some were obviously disturbed by the report: ...................... "They did it the wrong way," a Pentagon adviser on the war on terror told me, "and took a heavy-handed approach based on coercion, instead of persuasion - which actually has a much better track record. It's about rage and the need to strike back. It's evil, but it's also stupid. It's not torture but acts of kindness that lead to concessions. The persuasive approach takes longer but gets far better results." ...................... Last edited by trickyy; 09-13-2004 at 11:46 AM.. |
