Bushisms

Quote:
A new 'Bushism': We're gonna get us
WASHINGTON - President Bush offered up a new entry for his catalog of “Bushisms” on Thursday, declaring that his administration will “never stop thinking about new ways to harm our country and our people.”

advertisement

Bush misspoke as he delivered a speech at the signing ceremony for a $417 billion defense spending bill.

“Our enemies are innovative and resourceful, and so are we,” Bush said. “They never stop thinking about new ways to harm our country and our people, and neither do we.”

No one in Bush’s audience of military brass or Pentagon chiefs reacted.

The president was working his way toward a larger point. “We must never stop thinking about how best to defend our country. We must always be forward-thinking,” he said.

White House spokesman Scott McClellan said Bush’s misstatement “just shows even the most straightforward and plain-spoken people misspeak.”

“But the American people know this president speaks with clarity and conviction, and the terrorists know by his actions he means it,” McClellan said.

Seriously why did the American people vote to hire this guy as our president?

Those this looks alot like flame bait I did find it amusing.

Because the possibility of misstatements isn't an important factor in selecting a president. Hell, I think it does more good than harm. The Daily Show gets better material if he's reelected.

Every time he makes a "Bushism" his poll numbers go up because the people find it "folksy" and amusing and believe him to be more down to Earth or whatever.

So you tell me, is it the way he truly talks or is it well rehearsed?

Who knows. I'm sure at first it was just mistakes, but now I would say they probably do write some of the stuff into the speach.

Personaly I love bushisms. That whole debate skit SNL did with bush saying all this stuff about strategery, and gore with his lock box thing was classic. I say even if he was the worst president ever (which I don't think he is) he would still be the president that has provided the best comedie.

While I am no fan of Bush, singling in on these things is kind of trivial. Yeah he's not a good speaker, but keep in mind no one is flawless either. If you were paying attention to Kerry's speech during the convention, he said something to the effect of "And we will train to have special troops for terrorist operations... COUNTER-terrorist operations...". I say stupid shit all the time and I'm an intelligent guy. There are plenty of better reasons to hate on Bush!

I misspeake all the time, and frankly it's not that big of a concern for me. My vote is based on the issues, and not whether or not someone misspeakes every now and then.

He is definetly anything but an articulate speaker. Basically the oposite. It really doesn't matter in the long run, but it does not make him look any more intelligent then alot of people already think he is. No one ever voted for him because he is a smart person.

Why don't we just forget all about the primary process and campaigns and institute an eloquence test for all candidates?

Oh wait, we can't do that because then people would actually have to think about important issues. Nevermind.

eh, most people don't do that anyways... at best i think many voters either vote just party or just based on one issue. all the others are registered "independent."

Well thinking about ways of harming ourselves is actually a good idea, if we can figure out what they can do to us first we can put the right things into place to protect us from it. but yeah I don't think he ment to say it that way though
