govt for afghanistan
if you were to create a government for present day Afghanistan, given the demographics and such, which system do you think would work best?
Parliamentary, Presidentialism, Presidential Parliamentary, or a Totalitarian State? Furthermore, would it be bicameral (2 houses) govt and would it be a federalist state or would power be centralized? For me I would go for a pseudo-federalist presidential parliamentary system with proportional representation. Given the numerous interest groups that exists in today's Afhganistan, it would be best to have everyone feel like they are represented somehow and their voice heard, hence the federalist system. But why I said "psuedo"? Well for the exact same reason, too many interest groups. If I were to give exclusive power to the states, there would then be a potential of a revolt or one state breaking away from the central government if they didn't like the PM/President. So it's sorta like saying "yea you have some power to rule your people but I get the final say so talk right before you get smacked right bitch." The parliament will be bicameral and the upper house will be elected by proportional representation and that would be where the PM would come from. The lower house would be popularly elected along with the president... AHHh i'm tired of typing...take it easy later.... |

Tough to say the place is largely tribal many different interests to deal with. Also at the same time culturally, they are different then the west. They basically live in a Fundamentalist patriarchal society that hasn't really changed for hundreds of years. Sadly all that basically would lead me to say that a totalitarian regime might be the only way to get things to work. Ideally I would hope that it wouldn't have to be brutal, but Afganistan isn't on the same planet has us, democracy isn't in their vocabulary. It's a strong man thing, it's the only way it can work out there.
