More BritGov Crap...

Man is jailed for killing robber

A 25-year-old man is beginning an eight year sentence after he was found guilty of the manslaughter of a 38-year-old man who had tried to rob him.
Carl Lindsay from Walkden, Greater Manchester, stabbed Stephen Swindells after he and three accomplices arrived at Lindsay's home armed with a gun.

Mr Swindells died later after he was found discovered collapsed in an alley.

His three accomplices were found guilty of robbery and firearms offences and sentenced to fourteen years.

Manchester Crown Court heard how Mr Swindells, from Rockley Gardens, Salford, went to Lindsay's flat at 2145 GMT on 27 February 2003 with the intention of robbing him.

Robbery and firearms offences

When Lindsay opened the door, to be confronted by him and three accomplices who were armed with a gun, he fetched a Samurai sword and stabbed Mr Swindells four times.

I believe the sentences passed today reflect the severity of the circumstances

Det Chief Insp Sam Haworth
Mr Swindells died later in Hope Hospital after he was found in an alleyway between Strawberry Road and Broad Street in Pendleton.

David Ryan, of Salford, Darren Ashton of no fixed abode and Michael Page, also of no fixed abode, were all convicted of robbery and firearms offences.

They were sentenced to 14 years.

Det Chief Insp Sam Haworth said: "Four men including the victims had set out purposefully to rob Carl Lindsay and this intent ultimately led to Stephen Swindell's death.

"I believe the sentences passed today reflect the severity of the circumstances."

I can just hear SF now..."We must ban swords, people don't need to defend themselves, swords just make it easier to kill people....blah blah blah..." And where, Mr. Famous, did these -robbers- get the GUN they were using? I thought handguns were -illegal- in England! You mean criminals sometimes break the LAW?!
To all Decent Britons; I pray for you and your nation. Get rid of these prats! Get mad!

They got the gun from a place that allows guns--pretty simple concept. Your hyperbole doesn't add to your point--oh, you didn't even try to make a point. Just a bash at Strange Famous.

I'm still having trouble with the description, however. Four guys show up with guns at the house to rob you, and you go get a sword and come back and stab one a few times resulting in his death later?

Some details seem to be missing.

It certainly doesn't seem like he needed a sword to defend himself. If they were going to harm him, I would suspect they would have shot him with their guns after he started swinging a sword around. But they didn't harm him even after he fatally stabbed one of the intruders.

You need to take this thread somewhere, and somewhere fast, or it's gone. Make a point, or a statement of your beliefs, using the material that you've offered up.

All I see here is you trying to assuage, or belittle, the beliefs of Strange Famous. I call foul. Fix it.

I thought the same thing as smooth. This article is swiss cheese. There are so many holes and a limitation of vital information that you can't reasonably make an opinion on the courts ruling.

The three accomplices were "armed with a gun"?

This happened over a year ago and yet I can't find any other information on it.

My point is that in Britain, you -do- go to prison for defending yourself, and if we're not careful in the States, we're headed in the same direction. I've heard it said repeatedly by several people ( although, thankfully, only one on this forum ) that this state of affairs is:
A: A good thing
B: Impossible in the US.
I offer articles like this as an object example of where many, if not most, politicians in this country, R and D both, would have us land.

Well, I see nothing to discuss here. I've given ample enough time to fix this thread and I don't see that happening.

In the future, keep in mind that it is not in anyone's intrests to open a thread with the sole purpose of antagonizing a single member.
