The politics board "do something" challenge!
Art's thread here:
http://www.tfproject.org/tfp/showthr...44#post1040844 has inspired me to make a TFP challenge. I'm sure if you are reading this board, there is *something* that you are passionate about when it comes to politics. We all like to talk, talk, talk here about what we would do if we ran the war, for example. Unless Donald Rumsfeld is here under an alias, I doubt many of us can affect that outcome. I'd like to challenge you to take direct action on your beliefs. The challenge is simple. By midnight (in your time zone) next Friday, March 26th, take at least one direct action to support one of your political beliefs. Post your report here. What do I mean by "direct action"? I mean doing something that actually affects the thing that you believe strongly about. Some things that I think would definitely count: - donating to a favorite cause or group - attending a meeting for a group or cause that you want to know more about - donate a book to your library about a cause that you feel strongly about - writing a letter or calling a politician to express your opinion about a belief - volunteer at a charitable organization that supports something that you believe in I'm sure you all can think of one hundred other ways to act on your beliefs. I think if this country was full of informed voters who thought about and acted on what they believed in, we would have far less problems in the world. Are you up for the challenge? I am! |

Well, let's see...I'm already a member of the Libertarian Party of Nebraska. I attended the State Convention. I'm on the commitee to elect Nydra Karlen to the Nebraska State Senate. I would also volunteer for Jack Graziano's bid for Congress, but my time is limited, and frankly, Nydra actually has a shot at it.
Does any of that count?

Another $50 to the Kerry campaign.
Hosted a "get-together" this weekend for people who want to learn more about Kerry - about 10 people, showed them a video and a few of us answered questions - results were good, got four people to commit to volunteering for Kerry. On a local note I wrote letters to every member of the state legislature thank or scold them for past votes regarding funding for children with disabilities (my son is disabled) and encouraging them to continue to fund these programs. I hope more people get involved in whatever they believe in.

$50 bucks to Kerry. $25 to Dean's "get out of debt" fund.
