AND IT HAPPENED AGAIN!!! THIS TIME WITH VH1!!!

Sorry to bring up an old thread, but i was watching an avril lavigne video.."Don't tell me" which is not risque at all

at one point "Don't think that your charm and the fact that your arm/ Is now around my neck will get you in my pants/ I'll have to kick your ass," she sings. "Get out of my head/ Get off of my bed/ Yeah, that's what I said" was said...no big deal right...WRONG!!!

The part "Will get you in my pants" was completely edited out. you saw her mouth moving, which was the only way i found the lyrics as i'd never heard the song before, but apparently saying, "something will get you in my pants" is taboo now...!!!

Seriously folks, where does it stop? I don't even know if Warrant's "Cherry Pie" could be played on MTV or Vh1 now...Or divinyl's "I touch myself" or heck, even sisqo's "Thong song"...

Seriously, where does it stop? I predict there is going to be a counterculture backlash to all this censorship. if not, i'm going to start one...This is getting rediculous. I cannot even tell you a song from 1993 to 1999 that i heard that had words, OTHER THAN EXPLICIT cursewords, S**t, F**k, P***Y, whatever, blanked out...And now, it's like every other song has something too raunchy for tv...

Whatever happened to personal responsibility...

Oh yeah, This video was viewed at 4:30 AM, it wasnt' like it was prime time or even early enough for the 6 am kids wakeup or whatever, it was 4freaking30 AM....Just me, the crickets, the birds, and 72 other pathetic losers up...

I'm beggin...where does this stop?

I wonder....are the videos that are less heavily edited done by artists that are publishing albums on record labels owned by MTV's parent, Viacom?

While that is true, it is hard for someone looking to make a living, achieve fame, etc., etc. [don't forget the corporate pressure signed artists feel] to pass up the world's largest retailer. I personally don't buy anything at Wal-Mart because of heir censorship [the two things that really got me was wanting Sheryl Crow to edit out a line about WalMart selling guns--I'm not sure if she did or not]...I am against censorship on any level--it is up to individuals and parents to decide what they see, read and listen to not the stores, not the broadcasters and certainly not the government's.

speaking of which..

in the avril song...the line about being in her pants was edited out, but the word, "ASS" wasn't....does something seem strange here?

and funny that walmart would be upset that sheryl crow would have a line about walmart selling guns...heck, they sell bows and arrows too...

American culture is stupid. The majority of people are ignorant drones and that will probably never change.

Network news (Fox, NBC, CBS, ABC) can repeatedly show the planes slamming into the WTC on 9/11, but they can't show a boob? Something is screwed up with that, and the fact that the majority of americans aren't making that connection is equally disturbing.

I also wish someone would have the balls (either Janet or Justin) and say, "Look, what happened really wasn't that bad. You prudes really need to get over it and realize there are a lot worse things on TV during prime time." If they have THAT much influence on the kids as everyone says they do, then perhaps that will put a spark in the minds of most people to think and worry about themselves.

Video games like Grand Theft Auto and Manhunt can show EXPLICIT gratuitous violence... killing cops, blowing things up, cutting people's throats with a shard of glass, etc.. but if they show a topless woman in a video game, I bet there'd be an uproar!

At least the publishers are getting smarter and testing the system. Manhunt doesn't think twice about uttering the word "fuck".

The stuff on prime-time is blowing my mind. Even 15 years ago, when I used to sit around and watch TV as an adolescent, I never dreamed they could say the shit they do now. I've heard ass (it used to be used only in double-meanings--only if it could [i]also]/i] mean mule, but now it's used to just straight mean asshole), bitch, whore, and some other words that I don't remember. But all the time, I wonder just how far it can be stretched.

I'm not a prude and am not particularly bothered by it. But I also recognize that I don't have any children, although plenty of them are watching TV at 8 pm.

I think there si a big difference between 4:30 AM and 8 pm...

and yeah, i'm kinda shocked at what they get away wtih now vs 15 yrs ago, buuuuttttttt, i think they were just really prudish 15/20/30/pick your number years ago compared to today...

i just get very easily upset when anythign is censored...i think it started when i saw a depiction fo the statue of david in the local art gallery and the put a freaking fig leaf over the genitals...

The thing is... I don't understand why we make a big deal about nudity/swearing and censor it. I mean, I guess I do because of all the religious zealots and whatnot, but sex is as much a part of life as breathing, eating, crapping, etc..

I guess what I'm trying to understand is... what are people trying to get at by preventing children from seeing nudity? Let's say the govt got what they wanted and prevented everyone from seeing any form of nudity and hearing any swearing. Are they stupid enough to think it would change society for the better? Would crime stop? Drugs be erased? Would people have more/less need for self-responsibility and freedom?

It's not children are gonna see the nudity and start crying or grow up with serious mental problems. Nudity in our society is like a woman in the middle east not covering her face. Sure, it's culture and all, but in reality and in the grand scheme of things, it's just plain stupid and pointless. It solves nothing.

I know that's our culture, but isn't it about time people start thinking outside of the box? It's just skin, and cuss words are meaningless words that people overreact to.

When I was a kid, my parent never made my close my eyes at boob scenes in movies. I didn't grow up a psychotic rapist. I heard swearing all the time. I knew what "fuck" was back in kindergarten. If I didn't hear it on TV, I certainly heard it from the other kids.

It was my understanding that any 'censoring' done by or for MTV is to make money. Keep the advertisers happy. They don't want anything "contorversial" associated with their product and they won't know what's palying when their ad airs. Some offended group alwayd threatens to boycott and things get changed.

Logos? Free advertising. MTV isn't getting their cut. Digitalize out the logos.

As for WalMart and editied media. I don't think many people know of this practice. No lables, no one's the wiser. Seems kind of shady if you ask me, just because you think you're buying one thing and find out it's somthing different.

I don't by entertainment media at WalMart. Not at any major chain if possible. Buy local, save an indy record store.
