Kerry won narrowly. He was ahead in the polls by up to 35% just a few days ago.

Advantage: Edwards

It's now possible to imagine a scenario where Edwards can win. The Kerry inevitability scenario is weakened. We're rooting for the underdog.

Edwards could surge and just win it all by himself.
Kerry won the liberal and democrat votes, Kerry got a resounding amount of the independents and... republicans voting for him. Edwards isn't too far off from Kerry on the liberal scale. It shows, I think that we have two very strong candidates coming into this election season right now.

He may get some help though. Dean had some kind of meeting with Edwards Sunday in Milwaukee about possibly throwing his support behind Edwards in the event he withdrawls.

In many states, the combined totals of Dean and Edwards would have meant victory. And Deans delegats puts him within striking distance of Kerry.
Theres a little bit of rumblings about a Dean for Veep in exchange for Deans vocal, organizational and base support.

AP is reporting that Dean is withdrawing today.
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmp..._on_el_pr/dean

Dean is speaking at 1pm in Burlington.

Quote:
The sources said the shape of the new effort is still to be determined but that Dean would eventually support the Democratic Party's nominee. One official said Dean would help elect Democrats to Congress in the fall.

Dean was mulling whether to endorse one of his rivals. John Edwards (news - web sites) has been reaching out to Dean for several weeks, and the former Vermont governor has been impressed with the North Carolina senator and grateful that he has not criticized Dean, the officials said.

Still, the officials cautioned, the chance for endorsement remained slim.
I'm still hopeful that Dean will endorse within the week. I think Edwards will get the lions share of Deans support regardless. There is strong antipathy towards Kerry among many Dean backers.

But Dean voters are also rather liberal. Kerry got where he is today by picking up disgruntled Dean supporters.
