That last one looks like he's thinking, "Well, shit."
Any sympathy I might have for this pathetic figure is lost when I think of the thousands he's tortured and killed.

And suddenly the great dictator is a sad old man, dying of cancer.
If America dont want a real civil war, they seriously need to execute him before he can die of natural causes.

I hope the Americans stop whinning the next time pictures of their POW's end up on the 6 o'clock news. these pictures show how the states mock the Geneva Accords when it doesn't suit them yet when thier troops get caught and end up on TV or the newspapers they should not whine saying they can't do that. not trolling or anything just my opinion
the americans don't need to execute saddam they need to have a trial where Iraqi's the people who suffered most decide his fate not an occupying force.

Saddam Hussain is dying of cancer. if he dies of natural causes in American custody (sic?) it will look like he was murdered and create waves of violence across Iraq. They need to set up the show trial, hand him down his death sentence and kill him legally (and there are plenty of Iraqi's who will be happy to kill him or see him killed on America's behalf)
if you just keep him locked up and one day find him dead in his cell, it is just going to look really bad - Im sorry if my first post wasnt clear debaser.

I tried to search 'Saddam Hussain cancer' and got no where.
Then I remembered its SF so I put in 'Saddam Hussain cancer socialist'' and found a couple of small referances. Quote:

Oh.
Is reported. I guess I'll withhold my own judgement as to the veracity of this until I see some more data.

It may well be true, but unless its so bad he will drop dead in the next few months it won't matter.

Could be, but you're right.
In a few months it won't matter. I'll bet my left nut that if the Iraqis get him, he's dead.

I think that in this particular case the value of demonstrating to the people of Iraq that Saddam really is in US custody, and really won't be coming back in glory to judge the Ba'athist loyalist and the American collaborator, far outweighs the infringement of Saddam's Geneva Convention rights.
He's still getting a trial instead of being lashed over the muzzle of a 155mm cannon and bisected at the waist. IMHO, this is testament enough to the willingness of all involved to respect the principles of due process and the rule of law. |

The point of the Geneva convention isnt that it only applies when you or your side think it should. I mean, I really dont want to state the obvious, but you can understand the point of "rules of war" can't you?

The Geneva convention just bothers me a little because sometimes it feels like we're the only ones who follow it.
As for Saddam, I can't believe he has cancer. This certainly puts a twist into things. I hope we can expect a quick trial.

so marines with cameras are allowed to take pictures of POW's to show thier families and that doesn't violate Geneva. are you denying it is a violation. It shouldn't be hard to find the people in the pictures and punish them. What about the MP's beating POWs or does that make you laugh too. No matter what the US uses the Geneva Accorda as it suits them plain and simple.

Plus I'm not sure if its a violation since the pictures don't seem to be pictures taken for offical purposes, I haven't seen them in a government release, and they may well have been leaked. If it weren't for the internet I don't think we would have ever seen them. But hey if YOU think we should go punish some GI for this, be my guest. Why don't you try to get a petition going and see how far that gets you.

now let me get this straight pictures of POWs are only against the Geneva Accords if they are in government release can you show me where this is stated, i'd like to know. thanks. it would be great to get a petition going but whats the point when the US has a government that doesn't listen to what people want.

LINK -------------------------------------------------- Article 13 Prisoners of war must at all times be humanely treated. Any unlawful act or omission by the Detaining Power causing death or seriously endangering the health of a prisoner of war in its custody is prohibited, and will be regarded as a serious breach of the present Convention. In particular, no prisoner of war may be subjected to physical mutilation or to medical or scientific experiments of any kind which are not justified by the medical, dental or hospital treatment of the prisoner concerned and carried out in his interest. Likewise, prisoners of war must at all times be protected, particularly against acts of violence or intimidation and against insults and public curiosity. Measures of reprisal against prisoners of war are prohibited. ----------------------------------------- Now it seems to me that you could look at this two ways. First, that the soldiers are violating this rule by taking pictures of him. BUT, are they being taken with the goal of public dissemination? In otherwords, do such soldiers, who are doing the capturing, represent the public? Personally, I would argue no. Also, I think it very clear that pictures of POW's put on the local TV does represent exhibition and is in violation of this article. Whereas Saddam's pictures were posted with the specific purpose of proving to the Iraqis that we got him, no question. So a lot of grey area, but I can't see reason to make this the center piece of an argument about the way we conducted the war.
