What bothers me is this:

Regardless the Arab state controlled press constantly blames Israel for everything, hate is taught in all their schools, and history is only taught in ways which give Arabs claim to all of Israel. One of the nicest and most gentile guys I knew was a Jordanian. He was highly educated and very intelligent, (we were in the same program, he had to be ;) ). One night we were working late on our projects and we started talking politics. Despite going to top Jordanian schools, he never knew that Jews had been in Israel prior to the Arabs, and he was taught nothing prior to the Crusades. His fathers generation was referred to something like 'the losers' since they had lost to Israel in 67, and while he said they aren’t anti-Semitic, he then mentioned the prophecies they are taught where the Jews are all pushed into the sea. |
Ustwo
If you talk to Israelis, they deny that that there were any arabs living in the Levent prior to 48, when the facts show that almost 800,000 people were forceably removed from that area to make way for Jewish settlers. This is a legitmate cause of tension, and I believe that the Israel biblical basis for Zionism is just as racists and problem causing as say the KKK's ideas for segragating the US. Both sides teach that god gave them that land, and both sides point to dusty books that back them up. Untill bronze age folklore is not used as a basis for nation building, neither side will know peace. But I still say the Arabs have a valid reason to be angrey, almost 800,000 people displaced to make way for more Europeans. That and over 800 new illegal settlements have been built since 9 11, Sharon is thumbing his nose at the Arabs. He knows he has the biggest kid on the block backing him up. This in no way endorses Palastinian terrorism, but I do understand why they are pissed off. And the UN failed them, the arab world exploits them, and their own leader uses them. And they see their former houses being lived in by the people that force them to cross borders to work, living a great life style, while they live in squalor. This is a perfect recipy for creating suicide bombers. |
One thing that has me scratching my head though.

Possibly they could tick all that apply?

Wow, even when they're horribly oppressed for many years they still hate the Jews.
"Saddam was an evil man and all of his actions were criminal acts, except for killing Jews, I guess that was OK." |
Endymon32, I'd say the *Jews* have every right to be angry. After all, even though there were sizable Jewish populations all over the middle east, these are now gone. And that is simply because they were forced to leave (if lucky), or exterminated (if not).
Or, while we are on the subject: what about the Kurds? Many thousands murdered, forced to leave their houses, etc. Yet nobody in the Arab world seems to give a rat's arse about them. The Armenians then? Christians slaughtered by the Turks during WW1, except the Turks keep denying it. And nobody cares. And that's only two examples in the middle-east. We could go all the way to the other side of the world, to Indonesia, to take a look at other examples of whole populations being repressed after being conquered by Muslims... yet it was only recently that people started taking note (East-Timor), and there are many other people that you never hear anything about. Yet these same Indonesians are angry at the Jews for their actions against the Palestinians. I'd say many Arabs and other Muslims are a bunch of hypocrites. There, now back to the poll. :) |
I will never argue with you that Arabs and muslims are hypocrites, Hell, I agree to the most part. I was just pointing out that the Israelis are not the innocents they pretend to be.

I can understand why the Iraqis would answer that way concerning the "Illegal State Currently Occupying Palestine". Both sides have a gripe, I understand why each side does what they do. But it's because of the extreme actions on BOTH sides that I support neither the Israelis or the Palestinians. I think I'm one of the few Republicans to actually favor tightening the Israeli purse strings supplied by us. We have the clout to smack Israel upside the head for the stupid stuff that they do sometimes, we just don't, which is probably my only beef with my party (that I can think of atm). However, unless the Arab nations start doing the same thing to organizations like Hamas and Hezbollah and Palestinian Islamic Jihad, we can't do it, so it's a big huge Charlie-Foxtrot where both sides need to make concessions and just stfu. However, the answers to those polls don't surprise me at all, they're right about where I expected.
