Rush Back?!?!!?
 

I don't care much about his politics but I find it truly amazing that Rush Limbaugh is coming back to his show after 5 weeks of rehab. Meanwhile, there are people serving time for crimes in line with the allegations facing him [hell, Tommy Chong is serving a year for selling bongs!!!!]

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) - Rush Limbaugh will return to his radio talk show Monday after completing a five-week treatment program for his addiction to painkillers, his brother said Wednesday.

David Limbaugh made the announcement to Internet personality Matt Drudge, who was sitting in Wednesday for the conservative commentator.

Limbaugh left the air Oct. 10 after acknowledging that he had been abusing prescription painkillers.

Limbaugh plans to resume his regular schedule, hosting his three-hour show on weekdays for his audience of 20 million, his brother said.


"He's obviously chomping at the bit to get back to doing what he does best," David Limbaugh said.

Rush Limbaugh said last month that he was checking himself into a treatment center to "once and for all break the hold this highly addictive medication has on me."

His brother said the host successfully completed the first phase of his treatment. He did not say what the next step is.

I want to know how someone can have failed back surgery 5 yrs ago, try to treat the problem with narcotics, then go out and play golf in charity events.

I am glad to see Rush back. I suspect he will be a little more circumspect when dealing with someones addiction now.

If you talk the talk, you'd better walk the walk. If he doesn't really come down on drug use in his show and not be found to have relapsed, at some point, his program will suffer. No one likes a hypocrite. Personally don't care for the man or his views, but I do hope he has seen the error of his ways and kicked the drug habit.

Hmmm...Ya really think so? I'd bet not. Oh, maybe at first, then gradually he'll turn the heat back up until he's just as acerbic as ever. My guess is that Rush is going to play just as humble as apple pie for a month or so...three at the most, then it's back to the same old Rush.

Selling drug paraphernalia and using drugs have always had different punishments. Besides, Rush was never found with drugs on him; he simply admitted to using them. As you stated, Tommy Chong was actually selling drug supplies.

"Tommy Chong was actually selling drug supplies." Tommy sold an item that is for sale in a shop not 200 yrds from my city's Police Dept, and I live in Texas! Shop has been there two years now. The item that Tommy sold was a pipe. Some call it a waterpipe. Some call it a bong. Some call it a hookaa, I probably spelled it wrong. Anyhoo, there is not a pipe monitor that insists that you put anything illegal in your pipe of choice. I prefer Meershaum for cool tobacco flavor, mmmmmmmmmmmmmm. Tommy is in custody because someone decided that the items he sold were evil. No one that bought any item from him can possibly be held responsible for any crime, like say smoking a plant that has not been approved by the powers that be, after all it's Tommy's fault for selling them that evil item. Meanwhile, Rush has decided that he is better now and ready to resume his life. Fame had quite a different result for these two. Makes little difference what you did or didn't do, what matters most is how are you percieved. I heard Rush for 20 min back in the early 90's and that was enough for me. The "talent on loan from God" did it for me. Good thing that Rush is back to work, some people like him. I'd be happy to see Tommy back to work too, some people like him.

I'm not being glib:
It will be astronomical - as far as audience interest.
He is an entertainer and lives and dies by his ratings.
This reflects audience interest.
I know some folks who will be listening who really never have before.

I listened to Rush today-- and I say again he will be circumspect when he talks about drug abuse.

He was extremely contrite.

Those of you out there that don't like Rush will still hate him no matter what.

This is alltogether different than the hedonistic, non-productive, wellfare takin, liqour store robbin, jackass that begs you for money on the corner of every street in every major city in america.

...and it's not like he was crushing the pills and injecting them for some intense high. And it's a fuck of a lot different than Kurt Cobain and his demented worthless widow.

Nah - as an addict (to a drug prescribed to him by a medical doctor) he shouldn't change his stance at all. He did nothing hypocritical. He didn't seek this drug out for his own uncontrollable hedonistic purposes.

The fact that you people can't see the difference in Rush's scenario and those you claim he was referring to in whatever quote your referring too - just points to the fact that you people are so blind in your hatred for him (and most right wingers in the public eye - i.e: Bush), you will never like him, and you will never agree with a word that is spoken by them - no matter how blatently true/obvious it is, so what's the point so why waste your time.

Rush will continue being Rush, and I/we will continue listening to him and tuning out the whiners who are consistently right behind

Drugs are drugs, you can sugar coat it anyway you want, but he was/is addicted to drugs. Lets hope the man learned a lesson.

I'm glad he isn't being broadcast up this way, he sounds like an idiot.

I don't hate him as I don't know him. Do I loathe a number (a large number) of the ideas, policies, bushwa he spouts? Indeed. Does his pushing the envelope harder & harder, then when getting called on it and resorting to the "entertainer" dodge disgusts me? Very much so.
